Shocker, Unshakable | Illustration by Kevin Glint
As is usual with every new set, we took the time to look at the red cards in Marvel’s Spider-Man, and today I highlight the best of them—the ones you’ll want to keep an eye on! And as a bonus, I also tracked down where some of the artwork on key reprints comes from.
Intrigued by my picks? Let’s dive in!
What Are Red Cards in Marvel’s Spider-Man?

Double Trouble | Illustration by Nathaniel Himawan
Most red cards in Marvel’s Spider-Man are designed with Commander in mind and give players explosive tools that match red decks. They focus on aggressive combat, fast mana, and chaotic card flow, often turning discard or sacrifice into direct value. For this ranking, only cards of a mono-red color identity are included from the following Spider-Man products:
- Marvel's Spider-Man Eternal (SPE)
- Marvel Universe (also known as Source Material) (MAR)
- Marvel's Spider-Man (SPM)
Honorable Mentions
While not every red-aligned card in Marvel’s Spider-Man sticks to a pure mono-red identity, it’s worth taking a moment to highlight a couple of legends that branch out into bigger color combinations.
Najeela, the Blade-Blossom, now Spider-Gwen, Web-Warrior, makes a token army every time you attack, but what really sets it apart is the 5-color ability that untaps your team and gives them lifelink, haste, and trample. It’s one of the strongest commanders out there.
Gwen Stacy, on the other hand, begins as a red legend that exiles the top of your library for value before you transform into Ghost-Spider, a full Jeskai () hero (as a modal dual-faced card, you can also cast it transformed). That shift blends red’s impulsive playstyle with blue’s draw power and white’s stability, which creates a perfect home for exile-based builds.
These two might not land in a strict mono-red ranking, but they deserve a nod as powerful chase mythics.
#20. Electro's Bolt
Electro's Bolt is a versatile burn spell that deals 4 damage and has mayhem value when discarded. It shines in discard or madness decks. Pair it with Seasoned Pyromancer or other discard outlets to maximize value.
#19. Angry Rabble
Angry Rabble delivers steady chip damage when you cast high-mana spells, and it can scale with counters in the late game. It works best in midrange red decks or as Commander support for decks that want to cast big haymakers. Pair it with Inferno Titan or Etali, Primal Storm. With trample baked in, it pushes damage through while it rewards you for playing expensive spells.
#18. Unexpected Windfall
This reprint of Unexpected Windfall calls back to the unforgettable panel where Aunt May introduces Mary Jane to Peter, and MJ greets him with the legendary line: “Face it, Tiger… you just hit the jackpot.”
Just like that reveal, the spell gives you more than you bargained for—two cards and two Treasures out of nowhere. As a Commander tool, it shines in treasure-heavy builds, where it pairs perfectly with Reckless Fireweaver or Professional Face-Breaker to turn sudden windfalls into lasting pressure.
#17. Thrill of Possibility
With a flashy new art that features the multiverse of Spider-heroes, Thrill of Possibility gets a stylish reprint that fits right into red’s identity. Trading one card for two fresh draws keeps your hand moving and fuels graveyard synergies. It’s at its best in discard-friendly decks, and it pairs nicely with Arclight Phoenix or Bone Miser in Rakdos () decks.
#16. Molten Man, Inferno Incarnate
Few cards in red actually let you search for lands, which makes Molten Man, Inferno Incarnate stand out immediately. Grabbing a basic Mountain as it enters ensures it never arrives small, and from there it only scales with your mana base. As a commander, it rewards mono-red landfall and big mana builds, and it pairs perfectly with Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle. The land-sacrifice clause adds some risk, but the payoff is a creature that can hit the battlefield as an enormous threat out of nowhere.
#15. Hobgoblin, Mantled Marauder
Hobgoblin, Mantled Marauder thrives in discard-heavy decks, gaining power each time you pitch cards. Flying and haste let it attack right away, which makes it a dangerous commander for madness builds. Pair it with Faithless Looting or Anje Falkenrath to maximize discard triggers. It rewards constant hand-cycling and can grow into a lethal attacker quickly.
#14. Winds of Change
Featuring the iconic Amazing Spider-Man #252 cover where Spidey first swings in with the black suit, Winds of Change embodies transformation and unpredictability.
Just like Peter’s shocking new look, this spell reshuffles hands and redraws, which throws everyone off balance. In Commander, it thrives in chaos or group slug builds, and it pairs beautifully with the mayhem mechanic, letting discard synergies and graveyard recursion fuel the storm. Decks with Nekusar, the Mindrazer or Magus of the Wheel get even nastier when every change of plans punishes opponents.
#13. Double Trouble
With Double Trouble, every creature becomes twice as threatening by doubling its power until end of turn. As a finisher, it fits into go-wide or tall strategies alike. Commanders that rely on mass swings like Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin or Xenagos, God of Revels get the most from it. You can pair it with trample enablers to ensure the doubled damage goes straight through blockers.
#12. Electro, Assaulting Battery
Electro, Assaulting Battery is a powerhouse commander option that turns every instant or sorcery into bonus mana while it stores red mana across turns. It’s ideal for spellslinger builds, and it pairs well with Aetherflux Reservoir for lifegain storm loops or Past in Flames for recursion. When Electro leaves play, the final blast of damage can finish opponents outright.
#11. J. Jonah Jameson
J. Jonah Jameson plays a sneaky support role, punishing with Treasure generation whenever menace creatures attack. As a commander, it leans into a menace or treasure-matters builds. Pair it with Captain Lannery Storm for explosive ramp or menace enablers like Goblin War Drums. It helps to turn aggression into a consistent mana advantage.
#10. Maximum Carnage
The saga Maximum Carnage forces the table into nonstop combat, ramps your mana, and ends with a big burn to all opponents. It works as a chaos-leaning Commander support piece or an aggressive closer. Pair it with War's Toll or Disrupt Decorum to amplify forced attacks. Aggro decks love it, and group slug strategies thrive on its disruptive presence.
#9. Pumpkin Bombs
Pumpkin Bombs is a risky but rewarding artifact. It trades cards for draw and burn, while it passes itself to opponents like a hot potato. It’s perfect in decks that love discard triggers or chaos effects. Pair it with Glint-Horn Buccaneer or Waste Not to get extra value. As a Commander piece, it fits into madness or chaos shells and looks to keep everyone off balance.
#8. Shadow of the Goblin
Shadow of the Goblin blends looting with a group slug burn effect tied to casting from outside your hand. In Commander, it synergizes beautifully with flashback, escape, or exile-casting themes. It pairs well with Chandra, Torch of Defiance or Light Up the Stage for repeated triggers. This enchantment rewards constant action and fuels aggressive red engines.
#7. Spinneret and Spiderling
Spinneret and Spiderling grows steadily whenever multiple spiders attack, then exiles cards for bonus card advantage when damage piles up. In Commander, it thrives in spider typal or go-wide builds. Pairing it with Arachnogenesis or Ishkanah, Grafwidow ensures constant synergy. It brings scaling pressure and card flow, which makes it a solid, aggressive leader.
#6. Ghost-Spider, Gwen Stacy
Ghost-Spider, Gwen Stacy brings menace and turns every attack into direct damage equal to your board size, so it’s perfect for go-wide strategies. As a commander, it rewards token swarms and aggressive lines. Pair it with Dragon Fodder or Krenko, Mob Boss to flood the board, then use extra combat cards like Relentless Assault to multiply the burn output.
#5. Relentless Assault
The energy of Relentless Assault echoes the explosive action in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #14, where Miles dives into battle during Gang War and never lets the fight stop.
Untapping your team and going in for another combat feels just as relentless, overwhelming opponents who thought they’d survived the first wave. As a Commander finisher, it doubles down in decks led by Xenagos, God of Revels or Aurelia, the Warleader. Even in spider builds, it ensures those swarms keep the pressure unending.
#4. Savage Beating
The raw brutality of Savage Beating mimics the iconic Amazing Spider-Man #316 cover by Todd McFarlane, where Venom looms over Spidey with unstoppable fury.
This spell gives you the choice of double strike or an extra combat, and paying the entwine cost means you get both. As a powerful red finisher, it excels under commanders like Neheb, the Eternal or Karlach, Fury of Avernus.
#3. Spider-Verse
Imagine a world where every spider legend can swing together without the legend rule to hold it back—that’s exactly what Spider-Verse delivers. On top of that, it copies spells you cast from outside your hand, which plays perfectly with discard strategies and the mayhem mechanic. Combine it with Past in Flames or Jeska's Will to snowball value, and spider typal decks suddenly feel unstoppable with leaders like Spinneret and Spiderling to share the web.
#2. Goblin Bombardment
The Amazing Spider-Man #39 cover by John Romita Sr, where Spidey faces off against the Green Goblin, captures the same relentless energy that Goblin Bombardment brings to the table.
This enchantment turns every creature sacrifice into a fiery blast, which lets you close out games or pick off key threats. It thrives in token-heavy and aristocrats builds, especially alongside Sling-Gang Lieutenant or Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder, where even the smallest creatures become lethal ammo.
#1. Spider-Punk
A fan favorite, Spider-Punk gives all spiders riot and makes spells and abilities uncounterable while shutting down damage prevention effects. It’s perfect for aggressive spider typal Commander decks or even chaos builds. It has cEDH potential, as long as you're smart with it (Spider-Punk makes everyone‘s spells uncounterable).
