What Are White Token Generators in MTG?

White token generators are cards with a mono-white color identity that create a token of some sort. Whether it’s Treasure, Food, Blood, or a creature token, some white token generators have the potential to create many of them at once with some that even have double token generation effects. Certain instants and sorceries can even be given another special effect that turns the tides of the game in your favor.

#34. Luminarch Ascension

Luminarch Ascension

Luminarch Ascension has the great ability of creating an Angel token with a low-cost activated ability. It’s a bit challenge to reassure having four quest counters by not losing life for four turns, which is why it’s not the best white token generator.

Despite this, it’s a great backup to have for when you’re in the lead and can constantly evade combat damage. Increase how many quest counters are on Luminarch Ascension faster with the proliferate ability on Norn's Choirmaster that triggers when a commander enters the battlefield or attacks.

#33. Legion Loyalty

Legion Loyalty

All your creatures gain myriad with Legion Loyalty. This card works best if you’re in a play pod with two or more opponents. When a creature with myriad attacks on opponent, it’ll create token copies equivalent to the number of other opponents you have. You’ll have one attacker go after each opponent and then the copies get exiled at your end step. This is a good backup card if you’re having trouble accessing your other token-generating resources.

#32. Oketra the True

Oketra the True

It’s easy to have three or more creatures out when you’re running a token deck so Oketra the True can gain the ability to block. While it can only be removed with an exiled effect because of indestructible, this card should be your last resort for token generation because it takes 4 mana to generate one Warrior token.

However, if you have infinite mana, then you can create infinite Warrior tokens with this card. Freed from the Real, Vizier of Tumbling Sands, and Azorius Chancery is one combo that can create infinite white mana for Oketra the True’s token generation ability.

#31. Cathar’s Call

Cathar's Call

Any white token deck could run Cathar's Call. Slowly build your token army with an aura enchantment that you can attach to any creature, even another creature token, generating a Human token on each of your end steps. Cathar's Call ensures you always have a chump blocker if your opponent has larger creatures, especially if you’re in the beginning stages of building your board state.

#30. Rosie Cotton of South Lane

Rosie Cotton of South Lane

Rosie Cotton of South Lane, the daughter of Farmer Cotton in The Lord of the Rings lore, doesn’t generate as many tokens as her father. However, whenever you make a token, you can buff up any other creature on your battlefield.

Hence, this creature synergizes well in the 99 of Farmer Cotton. If you create 10 Halfling tokens and 10 Food tokens with Farmer Cotton, then Rosie Cotton of South Lane will distribute 20 +1/+1 counters on any of the other creatures you control.

#29. Go-Shintai of Shared Purpose

Go-Shintai of Shared Purpose

Go-Shintai of Shared Purpose can potentially create up to three Spirit tokens on your end step if you’re running a mono-white deck with Honden of Cleansing Fire and Sanctum of Tranquil Light also on the field. Increase that output to 17 Spirit tokens on every end step if you run a 5-color Go-Shintai of Life's Origin Commander deck and have all the shrine cards on the battlefield.

#28. The Circle of Loyalty

The Circle of Loyalty

The Circle of Loyalty can potentially be cast for as little as as long as you control four or more knights. The card gives all your creatures a small buff while rewarding you with Knight tokens as long as the spells you cast are legendary. Don’t forget Kinsbaile Cavalier for double strike and Knight Exemplar for indestructible and a buff to your Knights.

#27. Staff of the Storyteller

Staff of the Storyteller

Sure, you get a Spirit token when Staff of the Storyteller enters, but this card is known more for its card draw ability. Gain enough story counters as more tokens enter and activate it to remove one and draw a card. Depending on how many tokens you generate, Staff of the Storyteller can become a great backup card draw solution if you don’t have Esper Sentinel or Loran of the Third Path.

#26. Historian’s Boon

Historian's Boon

Enchantment matters decks can benefit from extra Soldier tokens generated when enchantment spells are cast. Build the deck mainly with saga enchantments to get Angel tokens when you finish their final chapters. Incorporate the Doctor Who commander Barbara Wright so all your saga enchantments gain read ahead and you can fast forward to the last chapter right away.

#25. Ajani Goldmane

Ajani Goldmane

Ajani Goldmane’s ultimate creates an Avatar creature token with power and toughness equivalent to your life total. Imagine if you had over 100 life from cards such as Rhox Faithmender and Boon Reflection so your opponents would have to deal with a 100/100 Avatar! Don’t forget to add trample with Shadowspear and indestructible with Darksteel Plate so it’s pretty much untouchable!

#24. The Book of Exalted Deeds

The Book of Exalted Deeds

The Book of Exalted Deeds is a great white token generator with a hidden win condition. Gain enough life to generate an Angel token on each end step. When you activate its ability and exile the card, you can put an enlightened counter on any angel so your opponents can’t win and you can’t lose. Place the enlightened counter on the indestructible Avacyn, Angel of Hope so it’s more difficult to remove.

#23. March of Souls

March of Souls

March of Souls rewards you and your opponents with tokens equivalent to how many creatures each player lost to this board wipe. This evens out the playing field, replacing large Voltron creatures or aristocratic life drainers with manageable small tokens instead.

#22. Wedding Announcement / Wedding Festivity

Wedding Announcement Wedding Festivity

Wedding Announcement from Innistrad: Crimson Vow gives you some combination of three Human creature tokens and/or three card draws when certain conditions are met before its transformation. All your creatures get buffed when the card transforms into Wedding Festivity.

This is a great early game card to start building your token army immediately and draws cards to get access to resources to quickly build your board state. Whether it’s a vampire Commander deck with Mavren Fein, Dusk Apostle or an anything-goes token Commander deck with Ellyn Harbreeze, Busybody, Wedding Announcement will get your deck where it needs to be.

#21. God-Eternal Oketra

God-Eternal Oketra

God-Eternal Oketra rewards you with a Zombie Warrior token each time you cast a creature spell. Cards like this with recurring token generation effects are the best to have in your deck to keep your army bulked with creature tokens at all times.

Buff your Zombie Warrior tokens with Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite. Ratadrabik of Urborg reassures other zombies besides your Zombie Warriors (that already come with vigilance) have the vigilance ability.

#20. Crested Sunmare

Crested Sunmare

Neigh! Any white life gain token deck needs Crested Sunmare in the build so you can get an indestructible Horse token on every end step as long as you’ve gained life that turn.

Linden, the Steadfast Queen and Soul's Attendant will get you the life gain you need to create those indestructible Horse tokens. Keep Crested Sunmare protected with Darksteel Plate because it’s not indestructible like it’s horsey friends.

#19. Rabble Rousing

Rabble Rousing

Rabble Rousing rewards you with Citizen tokens equivalent to the number of creatures you attack with. Eventually you can cast the card you placed in exile with the Hideaway 5 ability without paying its mana cost.

Hopefully you can hide away another white token generator such as Divine Visitation or Ajani, Caller of the Pride to create more value with your token army.

#18. Hallowed Haunting

Hallowed Haunting

Hallowed Haunting creates a Spirit Cleric token when you cast an enchantment spell. Their power and toughness scale as you cast more enchantments and create more Spirit Clerics.

This card is best in enchantment decks such as Sythis, Harvest’s Hand, Daxos, the Returned, and Katilda, Dawnhart Martyr. Have a low mana curve with aura enchantment spells such as All That Glitters and Ethereal Armor to turn on Hallowed Haunting’s seven-enchantment ability.

#17. Song of the Worldsoul

Song of the Worldsoul

Song of the Worldsoul works best if you have low-cost cards for constant populate triggers. Try a couple of these other token-generating instants and sorceries: Alliance of Arms, Secure the Wastes, and Gather the Townsfolk.

To populate, you copy of a token creature that you already control. This may not seem like much, but they do build up over time. Expedite token generation with the token doublers we’ll discuss later on. Do you know them?

#16. Emeria’s Call / Emeria, Shattered Skyclave

Emeria's Call Emeria, Shattered Skyclave

Run Emeria's Call in a token deck as a win condition that lets you attack with all your creatures without fear of losing any. You even get two Angel tokens to further buff your army, though angels won’t gain indestructible this way.

#15. Ondu Spiritdancer

Ondu Spiritdancer

Ondu Spiritdancer lets you copy one enchantment spell each turn. Have Mirror Box on the battlefield to copy legendary enchantment spells such as Heliod, Sun-Crowned, Honden of Cleansing Fire, and Flowering of the White Tree.

Even if you can’t copy legendary enchantment spells, you can still copy some of the best regular white enchantments such as Anointed Procession and Cathars' Crusade. With Anointed Procession on the field, you can make two copies of the first enchantment spell you cast each turn instead of one.

#14. Elspeth, Knight-Errant

Elspeth, Knight-Errant

Elspeth, Knight-Errant does more than give you a Soldier with its +1 ability. Sure, that helps for when you need a chump blocker against an opponent’s 10/10 creature. Use Elspeth’s other +1 ability to give a creature flying and a buff until the end of the turn. Plus, your creatures get indestructible when Elspeth ultimates.

Everyone knows in Magic that you can’t remove a Planeswalker emblem. So you’re pretty much set if you can ultimate Elspeth as long as an opponent doesn’t have a Farewell in their hand.

#13. Resplendent Angel

Resplendent Angel

Resplendent Angel will synergize well in a life gain token deck by generating an Angel on the end step of any turn where you gained 5 or more life.

If you don’t have any way to gain life, activate the Angel’s ability to give it lifelink and get the Angel token. Easily gain enough life for the token trigger with cards like Soul Warden, Ajani's Welcome, and Elspeth Tirel.

#12. Grand Crescendo

Grand Crescendo

Pour mana into Grand Crescendo’s X cost to create green and white Citizen tokens. Plus, since this instant gives your creatures indestructible until the end of the turn, you can cast this to respond to your opponent’s board wipe.

Getting board wiped is the most annoying thing that can happen for a token player after spending all those turns creating a huge army. Hence, always make sure your tokens stay protected when you’re in a pinch with cards like Grand Crescendo, Rootborn Defenses, and Hour of Reckoning.

#11. Brimaz, King of Oreskos

Brimaz, King of Oreskos

Brimaz, King of Oreskos creates Cat Soldier creature tokens when it attacks or blocks. Brimaz can lead its cat army with Leonin Warleader and Regal Caracal, which are, funny enough, white token generators too.

Have Felidar Sovereign for cat-themed flavor and as a win condition when you have 40 or more life. This could be easy to achieve with those lifelinking Cat tokens created by the other cat creatures.

#10. Adeline, Resplendent Cathar

Adeline, Resplendent Cathar

Adeline, Resplendent Cathar’s power is equivalent to how many creatures you control, which is beneficial for a go-wide token deck. This human knight has a populate-like effect on attack and creates a Human token that attacks along with it.

#9. Divine Visitation

Divine Visitation

Divine Visitation turns your tiny 1/1 or 2/2 creature tokens into bulky 4/4 flying Angel creature tokens instead. Opponents are going to get flustered fast and search for any way to get this enchantment off the battlefield. Protect Divine Visitation from removal with the ultimate planeswalker ability on Elspeth, Knight-Errant.

Place this card in a Jinnie Fay, Jetmir's Second deck when you need some flying creatures. For thematic flavor, have this card in a Giada, Font of Hope Commander deck so those tokens can be pumped up based on how many other angels you already control.

#8. Ajani, Caller of the Pride

Ajani, Caller of the Pride

Include Ajani, Caller of the Pride in a life gain token build. The higher your life total, the larger the number of Cat creature tokens created by the ultimate.

Equip Luxior, Giada's Gift to this planeswalker to turn it into a creature. Then equip Ajani with Mithril Coat for indestructible so you can safely get to 8 loyalty and activate the ultimate ability for a large amount of Cat creature tokens. Raow!! (claws out)

#7. Myrel, Shield of Argive

Myrel, Shield of Argive

Myrel, Shield of Argive thrives well in a soldier build by creating Soldier artifact creature tokens equal to the number of soldiers you already control. Think of it as a token doubler but exclusively for soldiers.

Buff your soldier army with Valiant Veteran and Field Marshal which each give your soldiers +1/+1. Get an extra flash buff for all soldier creatures you control with Rescue Retriever.

#6. Battle Angels of Tyr

Battle Angels of Tyr

While Battle Angels of Tyr is very conditional in its abilities, myriad makes temporary tokens for each other opponent that it’s not attacking that turn. So, if you have three opponents, you’ll create two copies, each going after the other two opponents. There’s also the option of sending one of the tokens to an opponent’s planeswalker.

When each angel knight deals combat damage to a player, you get a Treasure token as long as the opponent has more land than you. You could create up to three Treasure tokens on one combat step if the main creature and both its tokens land combat damage on all your opponents. Make that six Treasure tokens if you have Anointed Procession on board.

#5. Ancient Gold Dragon

Ancient Gold Dragon

You never know how many Faerie Dragon creature tokens you’ll get when you roll a D20 after Ancient Gold Dragon lands combat damage. Flying makes it easy to land the combat damage and increase your overall air presence.

Equip the dragon with Shadowspear to handle opponents that do have flying creatures. Even one point of combat damage will trigger you creating a horde of Faerie Dragon creature tokens.

#4. Smothering Tithe

Smothering Tithe

Would you like to pay the ? Players in a pod with a token player know that question is coming whenever they draw a card while Smothering Tithe’s on the battlefield.

Whether you need Treasure tokens for ramp or to funnel them into cats and dogs with Jinnie Fay, Jetmir's Second, Smothering Tithe can generate so much value in a 4-player pod. If opponents repeatedly refuse to pay the to ward off extra Treasure tokens, you’ll have access to more mana to build your board state quicker.

#3. Mondrak, Glory Dominus

Mondrak, Glory Dominus

Mondrak, Glory Dominus doubles your token output and gives itself indestructible when you sacrifice two artifacts/creatures. If you have a Phyrexia: All Will Be One deck, you can double the tokens you create with Skrelv's Hive and White Sun's Twilight.

Make sure to have a couple of Treasure token generators such as Monologue Tax and Smothering Tithe. That way, you’ll have artifacts at all times that you can sacrifice to make Mondrak indestructible.

While this and the following two cards are debatable when it comes to whether it's a generator or a payoff, we're including them due to their incredible importance to the token strategy in general. Plus, they do create tokens.

#2. Anointed Procession

Anointed Procession

Anointed Procession takes the crown as the best white token generator in MTG. All token players know and love it as the quintessential token doubler for their white token decks. This card is so versatile in any token deck. Include it in a creature token build to go wide and swing in for the win.

Place it in an Orzhov () aristocrat deck featuring Marionette Master, build your board with Treasure tokens, and sacrifice them to deal damage to your opponents. Placing auras and equipment on Marionette Master will increase damage output for each Treasure token sacrificed.

#1. Ojer Taq, Deepest Foundation

Ojer Taq, Deepest Foundation.

It's a token tripler. It turns any normal token spell into something 3 times as powerful and effective. Take any instance where a doubler is great, and Ojer Taq makes it that much better. Needless to say nothing beats this!

Best White Token Generator Payoffs

The best white token generator payoffs are cards with a white color identity that reward you for having multiple tokens on the field.

These token generators synergize well with white cards that can slowly populate your token army. While there aren’t many of them, they can generate more tokens for you when you need a blocker.

Nesting Dovehawk lets you populate every combat step. If you have both Mondrak, Glory Dominus and Anointed Procession on the field, you can create four copies of a token rather than one.

Rootborn Defenses

Rootborn Defenses gives you a copy of one of your tokens and gives creatures indestructible until the end of that turn. This card’s essential for a game-finishing blow and plays defense just as well.

Card draw and fetching is hard to come by in white decks. Despite this, some white token generator payoffs reward you with card draw for tokens being on your battlefield.

Ellyn Harbreeze, Busybody

Ellyn Harbreeze, Busybody truly is a busybody with all the cards it searches for based on how many tokens you create in a turn. Funnel through your deck for all the answers you need, looking at more cards if you created more tokens that turn.

Bennie Bracks, Zoologist

Bennie Bracks, Zoologist is a creature token connoisseur (I mean, it’s a zoologist we’re talking about here, so of course), with its convoke ability when casting from your hand. Plus, if you generate at least one token per turn, you get to draw a card on your end step.

Cards with myriad can temporarily increase your token army. Hence, if you attack with a creature with myriad and have three opponents, you would create two tokens of that attacking creature that are tapped and attacking. Then, you would exile them at the end of combat. If you have one token doubler on the battlefield, that would be four copies of the myriad creature.

However, no tokens are created with myriad if you’re playing in a 1v1 match. Hence, refine your token deck build according to how many opponents you’ll have at your next game night.

Let’s not forget some general token card suggestions. Buff your tokens with Intangible Virtue. Have an easy, token-themed win condition with Halo Fountain. Don’t forget Martial Coup with X being 5 or more to destroy everything but the tokens you create.

White token generators include creature, instant, sorcery, and enchantment cards that make different types of tokens. These include two of the best token doublers such as Anointed Procession and Mondrak, Glory Dominus, and cards with token-funneling abilities (turning one token into another type of token) such as Divine Visitation.
