Radiant Summit - Illustration by Marco Gorlei

Edge of Eternities, MTG’s newest set, approaches at light speed. As the set that opens up a new Standard rotation, EOE has a fair share of responsibility in replacing the mana base that we lose from the rotating sets, and WotC’s been very generous in that department. We have five Ravnica shock lands and a new set of mythic mono-colored lands! Not only that, but there’s an entire bonus sheet of lands players can get in their Play boosters and Collector boosters.

Today we’re covering the lands of Edge of Eternities and its Commander counterpart, and we’ll take a look at the best lands from the bonus sheet, and the shiny new foil treatments/alternative art.

Without further ado, here are the lands you’ll find in the newest MTG set.

Edge of Eternities Basic Lands

Edge of Eternities brings gorgeous full-art, borderless lands. These are available in foil and nonfoil treatments in Play boosters, and traditional foil and galaxy foil treatments in Collector boosters.

There are non full-art basics in the set as well, which come in nonfoil and traditional foil.

Shock Land Reprints

These are some of the best dual lands ever printed, and it’s the first time they’re reprinted outside of a Ravnica set. While these shock lands are legal in pretty much every MTG format, these reprints matter most for Standard, where they’ll be legal until EOE rotates out. Although we’re getting only five of the 10 duals, the next set or so probably completes the cycle (possibly Lorwyn Eclipsed as the next non-Universes Beyond set). For now, some color combinations like Mardu () and Esper () got lucky, while others like Jeskai () or Grixis () will have to wait a little longer for better mana.

The Mythic Planet Cycle

These are five mono-colored nonbasic lands, all planets with the station ability. They won’t become creatures, but instead they acquire super broken abilities, with the blue one turning into Tolarian Academy or the green one into Gaea's Cradle. Expect them to see heavy play in Commander, and at least some play in the Standard format.

Notable Commander Precon Lands

WotC printed new lands for unfinished land cycles, but only in specific color combinations ( and , respectively). It's been confirmed that they expect to gradually complete these cycles in upcoming Commander precons. These can be found in borderless versions in Collector boosters as well.

Enemy Color Tango Lands

It takes two to tango, so these are called the tango lands. These fetchable dual lands can enter untapped as the game goes on. We’ve only had allied versions of these so far.

Enemy Color Cycling Lands

Also fetchable, and also only available in allied color combinations before, these lands enter tapped but you can cycle them for .

One-Off Utility Lands

Eumidian Hatchery

Eumidian Hatchery is a new black land that allows us to slowly store counters on it, proliferate it, you name it. Once it’s destroyed, you make that many flying insect tokens. If you’re playing this land, make sure you have ways to sacrifice it.

Secluded Starforge

Here’s an interesting rare land. Secluded Starforge can make 2/2 robot tokens for 5 mana, so it’s a good mana sink, and control decks can adopt this as a win condition. It’s nice that you can go on the offensive and buff your attacking creatures, too. I’d expect to see this land in decks that care about the number of artifacts you control.

Command Bridge

Despite the name, Command Bridge has nothing to do with Commander. It’s pretty bad fixing, actually, and it’ll probably only seeing play in Limited.

Stellar Sights Bonus Sheet

Edge of Eternities has a land-only bonus sheet, with land reprints from all across MTG’s history. There are 45 different Stellar Sights lands in this bonus sheet, consisting of 30 rares and 15 mythic rares. Half of them are admittedly pretty bad ones, but we can find exceptional lands here, too.

Ancient Tomb

Not all lands in MTG generate 2 mana. Ancient Tomb hurts you each time, but depending on the advantage you get, it’s pretty much a negligible life payment. It's a staple in many competitive formats, including Legacy, Vintage, and cEDH.

Inkmoth Nexus

Having infect on an evasive land is pretty powerful. Some decks use Inkmoth Nexus to chip in poison damage, while others go all in with combat tricks and equipment.

Mana Confluence

Like Ancient Tomb, the constant life payment is annoying. But with Mana Confluence, you get to generate every color of mana, which reduces the downside of playing a 5-color Commander deck or a 3-color aggressive deck.

Strip Mine

Strip Mine allows you to trade your land for your opponent’s, and it’s especially annoying if you can do that every turn with Crucible of Worlds and the like. Especially strong if you have a fast start and your opponents have a greedy mana base, since you can destroy their dual lands.

Where to Get Edge of Eternities Lands

Commander Precon Lands

Edge of Eternities Commander precons

For the exclusive Commander precon lands, there’s no other way to get those besides the precons themselves. If you’re looking for the new tango lands or cycling lands, these are the only way to get them for the time being. There’s good reprints in those precons too, but the new lands don’t have any special treatments.

And that’s about it for lands in Edge of Eternities, folks. The Stellar Sights bonus sheet is filled with exciting lands, and there are shock lands returning to print rotation and to Standard as well.

As for the odds of getting lands, both Play boosters and Collector boosters can have up to four slots of lands, but in Collector boosters you have more chances of getting foil treatments, plus you can find the exclusive galaxy foil treatment and a guaranteed Stellar Sights bonus sheet card.

What do you think about these lands, guys? Are you going for Collector boosters on this one, or will the Play boosters suffice? As always, let me know in the comments section below, or let’s take the discussion to our Draftsim Discord.

You can find the new typed duals from the pre-cons in the collector boosters as well. There is a card slot for new cards from the commander decks.
