2026 is a busy year for Magic, with a great many sets—including more Universes Beyond sets than in-universe properties. Among these is a second Marvel crossover set, Marvel Super Heroes, which improved on Marvel’s Spider-Man—if only because SPM buried the bar like Uncle Ben.
But what are the details of this Marvel set? What mechanics does it employ? I have you covered with all the details we know.

About the Set: The Story

Marvel Super Heroes art | Illustration by Kieran Yanner
There are tons of stories from throughout Marvel’s history, and this set jumps around to what you want to see the most. Kind of like we have super fast speed and see Iron Man as Tony Stark when we can also see Iron Man, Master of Machines and I Am Iron Man.
You get snapshots of iconic moments for hopefully all your favorite characters. Let our comment section be your voice to let everyone know who got missed.
Marvel Super Heroes Mechanics
Heroes and villains matter greatly, and the mechanics reflect this in isolating groups like only red and white creatures can use equip-worthy. Non keyworded effects include draw your second card and attack alone, are not abilities, but very relevant.
Equip worthy
Mjölnir, Hammer of Thor is the only equipment in the set that requires an equip worthy creature and is kind of like The Mind Stone in that it explains a mechanic that very few cards will ever have.
Power-up
Power-up is a new mechanic that can be activated once and is reduced in cost if the card entered play during the same turn. Quicksilver, Brash Blur is far more than a Raging Goblin thanks to its leyline text and hero-version of monstrosity, with the foundation provided by exhaust.
Teamwork
The teamwork makes the dream work, or in this case, gives you more options with spells! A bit like station for nonpermanents, you tap creatures with total power of at least 4 to get extra out of the card.
Transform
What other hero would you have represent transform‘s presence in Marvel Super Heroes? Bruce Banner turning into The Incredible Hulk is quite a moment to capture, and a cool way to draw cards and get extra combats with one Temur card.
Cameo Mechanics
Basic landcyclers return and are useful as usual.
You might recognize an old mechanic like boast, enrage, extort, improvise, investigate, shield counters, or sneak. While some have shown up recently like sneak, just two sets before this, for the others, you'll be glad you have our rules articles.
Set Card Types

The Vision | Illustration by Carissa Susilo
The subtypes fill in flavor and are mechanically relevant. WotC pulls out lots of creature subtypes that infrequently show up on Magic cards, but make sense like spy, demigod, and doctor. Here are more notable types to learn about for Marvel Super Heroes beyond heroes and villains.
Eternal
Rightfully so, the eternal type is not casually thrown around. Thanos, the Mad Titan is the only card with this type.
Gamma
Abomination, Terrifying Titan, Hulk, Gamma Goliath and Leader, Super-Genius are characters, with a level of radiation exposure.
Kree
We won't see Kree outside of a Marvel set, but now you know the race of people that Captain Marvel, Earth's Protector represents.
Plan
Evil plans. You hear about these with nearly every villain, and here they are as an enchantment subtype the requires preparation and patience. Take the unique actions to add plan counters, much like quest counters, and a key difference is that the enchantment gets sacrificed. In the case of Robot Domination that action is putting creatures into your graveyard.
Thinking on this one more time, plans are a bit more like an Ordeal, ever come across Ordeal of Nylea?
Sagas
The saga World War Hulk captures multiple frames of the comic story on one card, and is a wonderful vessel for meshing comic book style with cool Magic effects.
Skrull
Super-Skrull is a cool 5-color legend, and skrulls as a race are quite powerful, even if some are mediocre in Magic.

Notable Cards

The Mind Stone is the second of the Infinity Stones and another rock solid one in a color that greatly benefits from ramp. It harnesses the power of an every-turn flicker for any of your nonlands and promises extreme value. It is the textless headliner with a borderless full art, and if The Soul Stone is any indication, will retain lots of value in each treatment.
Three 5-color commanders appear in the main set of Marvel Super Heroes, but go figure, none of them cost five mana or more. Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., Thanos, the Mad Titan, and Super-Skrull.
The Serpent Society is an odd one and the only card that can start poison counters in the set.Vision, Synthezoid Avenger appears in one of the Marvel Super Heroes Commander decks and keeps you engaged on opposing player's turns. This is a highly protected phasing card that can easily grow to be huge.

Warstorm Surge is a special promo card included with first printing issues of Avengers: Armageddon' #1 and the reprint remains a strong value engine tool or a game-winning combo piece. This ranks up there with the best source-material style art yet.

Some of you heartless people would pass right by Lucky the Pizza Dog, and dismiss it as a nerfed, green Ajani's Pridemate. But let me tell you, dogs are good in Magic, and getting a free food token just for playing your other creature spells is good business on this Marvel Super Heroes Commander card.

Heroic Intervention gets a bunch of reprints, so choose your art and remember Ajani's words spoken like a true hero.
“Wherever the strong would harm the weak, I will be there.”

Wizards announced a ton of products for this, and given this is a Standard expansion, we can order these while we wait for prerelease: Play boosters, Collector boosters, Jumpstart boosters, and scene boxes among other goods. Commander Decks
Marvel Super Heroes Commander Deck Bundles compile four preconstructed decks, balanced to go against each other and full of a theme that you can relate to.
Connive is a great and evil mechanic that is strong whenever it shows up. The Fantastic Four tell us you are prowess without saying you're prowess, noncreature spell decks are common and powerful. Green-white artifacts is certainly less common, but the monarch mechanic gives good card draw to colors that really hunger for it, so I think the Wakanda Forever deck is sneaky good. Filter in blue, equipment and counters and your Boros aggro decks can hang in the later turns for what I think is the most flexible of the four decks in Avengers Assemble.
Here are the four decks:
- Avengers Assemble (): Grow Your Ranks | Equipment and Counters
- Doom Prevails (): Connive for Power | Drain Life
- The Fantastic Four (): Noncreature Spells | Protection Fields
- Wakanda Forever (): Power Up with Artifacts | Reign as the Monarch
- GET ALL 4 MARVEL SUPER HEROES-THEMED COMMANDER DECKS—Avengers Assemble, Wakanda Forever, The Fantastic Four, and Doom Prevails

- FOIL BORDERLESS COMMANDERS—Command your decks in style with Legendary Creature cards featuring Borderless art and a shiny Traditional Foil treatment. The Avengers Assemble, Wakanda Forever, and Doom Prevails decks each contain 1 foil Borderless card. The Fantastic Four deck contains 4 foil Borderless cards, 1 for each member of the team!
- EPIC MULTIPLAYER BATTLES—Magic’s most popular multiplayer play format, Commander is an action-packed, free-for-all battle full of strategic plays and social intrigue (best with 3–5 players)
Collector's Edition Commander Decks
High rollers shuffle up the Marvel Super Heroes Collector’s Edition Commander Decks and won't need to add more pizazz because each card is surge-foiled out. Opponents will have little choice but to gaze at the shine from your super heroes.

Can I Get Marvel Super Heroes on Arena?

Iron Man, Master of Machines | Illustration by John Tyler Christopher
Yes, Marvel Super Heroes does show up on Arena and MTGO in the departure from Through the Omenpaths. While we have no confirmation about why Wizards used OM1 for Marvel’s Spider-Man, the most likely explanation is some licensing conflict with Marvel SNAP having some form of digital-exclusive rights.
Wrap Up

Marvel Super Heroes art | Illustration by Stephanie Hans
Given the sour landing Marvel’s Spider-Man had, I’m surprisingly happy with the not-too-complex Marvel Super Heroes. I don't think this set redeems the comic-book franchise, or swayed many opinions when it comes to the community’s dislike of Universes Beyond. What will the next Marvel Universes Beyond property be? I must admit I’m curious to see how this set shakes out in the long term.
What do you really enjoy from Marvel Super Heroes? What do you think is being saved for an X-Men set? Which mechanic are you most excited to build around? Let me know in the comments or on the Draftsim Discord!
Be cautious near those Stark Industries buildings, and thank you for reading!
