2026 promises to be a busy year for Magic, with a great many sets—including more Universes Beyond sets than in-universe properties. Among these is a second Marvel crossover set, Marvel Super Heroes, which will hopefully be better received than Marvel’s Spider-Man—if only because SPM buried the bar like Uncle Ben.
But what are the details of this next Marvel set? When does it come out, and which mechanics might it employ? I have you covered with all the details we know about the upcoming crossover.

About the Set: The Story

If this Universes Beyond set looks anything like Marvel’s Spider-Man, it won’t have a cohesive story; rather, it will draw on iconic characters and moments from throughout Marvel’s history. Given the ambitious scope of the art revealed thus far, that seems most likely.
Marvel Super Heroes Mechanics
We can safely assume that heroes and villains will matter greatly. There's a chance some of the Marvel's Spider-Man mechanics like web-slinging and mayhem return, since they've already been established as part of the universe.
Power-up
Power-up is a new mechanic that can be activated once and is reduced in cost if the card entered play during the same turn. Quicksilver, Brash Blur is far more than a Raging Goblin thanks to its leyline text and hero-version of monstrosity, with the foundation provided by exhaust.
Boast
Boast came from Kaldheim, made itself known on a couple of cards since, and is a great fit for super villains like Baron Helmut Zemo.
Sagas
The saga World War Hulk captures multiple frames of the comic story on one card, and is a wonderful vessel for meshing comic book style with cool Magic effects.
Shield Counters
Captain America, Super-Soldier is invaluable in protecting your heroes. Now for a way to weaponize those shield counters…
Transform
What other hero would you have represent transform‘s presence in Marvel Super Heroes? Bruce Banner turning into The Incredible Hulk is quite a moment to capture, and a cool way to draw cards and get extra combats with one Temur card.

Notable Cards
Warstorm Surge is a special promo card included with first printing issues of Avengers: Armageddon' #1 and the reprint remains a strong value engine tool or a game-winning combo piece. This ranks up there with the best source-material style art yet.
Heroic Intervention gets a bunch of reprints, so choose your art and remember Ajani's words spoken like a true hero.

Speculation

The easiest piece of speculation here is that Marvel Super Heroes will use a Through the Omenpaths set for its digital release on Arena and MTGO. While we have no confirmation about this or, more broadly, why Wizards used OM1 for Marvel’s Spider-Man, the most likely explanation is some licensing conflict with Marvel SNAP having some form of digital-exclusive rights. Though unconfirmed, it seems likely, so I expect to see OM2 next year.
We can also expect at least one more Infinity Stone. I have zero theories about which it could be given the wide scope of the set, but its unlikely we’ll see none. Some official art featured Thanos, so we could even see an Infinity Gauntlet card.
For mechanical speculation, we’ll probably get more villains-matter cards. This will be a big plus for cards like Doctor Octopus, Master Planner and Tombstone, Career Criminal that are severely weakened by a lack of villains. We might even see some proper hero support beyond Cid, Timeless Artificer.
Given that a lot of the art previewed at MagicCon Atlanta shows groups of heroes (and villains), I imagine we’ll see a cycle of cards that represents superhero teams—probably enchantments with names like Avengers, Assemble! designed in a similar vein to the Ascendancy enchantments from Tarkir (Jeskai Ascendancy, etc.).
Since team-ups and crossovers occur in the comic, I wouldn’t be surprised to see legendary creatures that pair heroes and villains together in a manner similar to the team cards from March of the Machine like Rashmi and Ragavan.

Wizards announced a ton of products for this, and given this is a Standard expansion, we can order these while we wait for prerelease: Play boosters, Collector boosters, and booster boxes among many other goods. I plan to start off with the Beginner Box and four Commander decks.

Draft Night

Commander Decks
Marvel Super Heroes Commander Deck Bundles compile four preconstructed decks, balanced to go against each other and full of a theme that you can relate to.
Connive is a great and evil mechanic that is strong whenever it shows up. Tell us you are prowess without saying you're prowess, noncreature spell decks are common and powerful. Green-white artifacts is certainly less common, but the monarch mechanic gives good card draw to colors that really hunger for it, so the Wakanda Forever deck could be sneaky good. Filter in blue, equipment and counters and your Boros aggro decks can hang in the later turns for what has the marks of a potentially flexible deck in Avengers Assemble.

Given the sour landing Marvel’s Spider-Man had, I’m curious to see what comes of Marvel Super Heroes. Could this redeem the comic-book franchise, or only further heighten the community’s dislike of Universes Beyond? If there are indications of more Marvel sets to come, how far will Wizards push their crossovers? Though I can’t pretend to be looking forward to this set like I am Reality Fracture and Secrets of Strixhaven, I must admit I’m curious to see how it shakes out in the long term.
