Liliana the Faultless (Reality Fracture) - art by Marta Nael

Standard has been thriving since its most recent batch of bans, with new decks emerging and old ones thankfully taking a backseat. Reality Fracture has imbued the format with even more life. Here are some well-performing archetypes from the last batch of Standard Challenges on MTGO:

I wrote on Orzhov Soul Sisters recently for Draftsim, and the deckโ€™s still chugging alone. In fact, itโ€™s picked up lots of new toys from Reality Fracture, with Liliana the Faultless coming in a premium new Soul Sister with a protection ability and Enlightened Confidant and Ajani Resolute adding card advantage. This midrange deck can have aggressive starts thanks to Amalia Benavides Aguirre, or it can sit back on cards like Haliya, Guided by Light and Lunar Convocation to out-grind its opponent with card draw.

Superior Doomsday

Superior Spider-Man decks have been around since Marvelโ€™s Spider-Man, though their popularity and power waxes and wanes. The loss of Badgermole Cub seems to have given this deck a little breathing room as it doesnโ€™t need to handle as many hyper-explosive starts fueled by the crazy mana doubler. The deckโ€™s plan is simple: Get big creatures in the yard, then copy them with Superior Spider-Man[. Doomsday Excruciator is the big hit, but Deceit works just as well since Spider-Man is cast, so you get the enters abilities.

Izzet Spellementals

A few months ago all players could talk about was Izzetโ€™s death grip on the Standard format, but the banning of Stormchaser's Talent, among other cards, has eased that tension. Spellementals is the only Izzet deck placing at the moment, which is a much healthier place for the format to be. This deck combines Eddymurk Crab and Hearth Elemental with a bunch of cantrips and cheap removal spells so you can cast them for 2 mana. Then those elementals reduce the cost of Sunderflock as a finisher.

Mono-Green Landfall

While many Badgermole Cub decks went under after it was banned, notably the Nature's Rhythm and Selesnya Ouroboroid lists, mono-green landfall persists as one of the stronger decks in the format. The deck has excellent flexibility. Cards like Sazh's Chocobo, Mightform Harmonizer, and Lumbering Worldwagon gives it incredible kill pressure and lets it make aggressive starts, but cards like Sapling Nursery and Icetill Explorer keep the deck going into the mid or late game. Hexhaven Invigorator can be a risky include with an insane payoff as well.

Dimir Aggro

It feels like some flavor of Dimir midrange or aggro has been present in Standard forever. The current core of the deck is simple: Lots of cheap evasive creatures that fuel Enduring Curiosity and Kaito, Bane of Nightmares as high-impact threats. Part of the deckโ€™s staying power comes from those threats being so good, but part of it is that simple element. The deck constantly picks up new cards. Requiting Hex, The Wondrous Wasp, and Dream Beavers are all cards that came out this year and made the deck stronger. I imagine it remains part of the meta until Duskmourn: House of Horror rotates or Wizards stops printing good Dimir cards.

Jund Sacrifice

Jund Sacrifice is a pretty sick artifact-based artisotcrats decks that was a recent innovation in Standard just before Reality Fracture. The key cards are artifact token creators like Obsessive Pursuit and Magda, the Hoardmaster which fuel Umbral Collar Zealot. The Sackville-Bagginses and Biotech Specialist are the big win conditions as they burn your opponents when you sacrifice artifacts. Iโ€™m especially pleased to see the Specialist here; Iโ€™ve had high hopes for it since Edge of Eternities.

Rakdos Ingris

This Rakdos aggro deck pulls the most from Reality Fracture because it focuses on the high damage output from the Stingerquill cards. The star of the show is the combo of Ingris Stingerquill, which makes each attacking creature ping your opponent, and Master of Barbs, which makes your creatures larger when an opponent takes noncombat damage. Because each Ingris trigger is counter separately, this leads to lots of damage. And should the game stall out, you can build an army with Ingrisโ€™s activated ability or lean on nine burn spells to finish the game. I guess Requiting Hex isnโ€™t going out of style any time soonโ€ฆ.
