As a partial magpie myself, I understand the instinct to collect the shiniest, prettiest versions of a Magic card you can find. It’s one of the many reasons that I love opening packs, but I also always love finding alternate or foil versions of cards when I’m browsing singles, especially when their cost is equal to or cheaper than the other options.

Bloomburrow’s woodland theme extends to its showcase treatment, fittingly called showcase woodland. Which cards in BLB got the showcase woodland treatment?

What Are the Showcase Woodland Cards in Bloomburrow?

Showcase woodland cards are a special card treatment from Bloomburrow, in line with other showcase treatments we’ve seen in many MTG sets before. Think of the ichor frames from Phyrexia: All Will Be One, the Ring frame and scene cards from Tales of Middle-earth, or the wanted posters from Outlaws of Thunder Junction.

The showcase woodland cards’ treatment has a vignette style that makes me think of a mix of Thornton Burgess, Brian Jacques, and Over the Garden Wall. The cards themselves are a mix of card types rather than being focused on permanents or spells.

How Many Showcase Woodland Cards Are in BLB?

Collector boosters have two slots for non-foil alternate border rares and mythics, showing up 92.1% and 9.21% of the time respectively. In the foil/raised foil alternate border slot, rares and mythics show up 42.95% and 4.30% of the time. You have high odds of pulling at least one showcase woodland card in a BLB Collector booster.

Are Showcase Woodland Cards Standard Legal?

Yes! Any showcase woodland card from Bloomburrow is legal in Standard. Typical tournament rules about the various other ways a card could be considered “marked” through bending, damage, or other still apply.

Showcase Woodland Cards vs. Enchanting Tales and The Big Score

Showcase woodland cards are a showcase treatment of cards contained in the main Bloomburrow set. They retain the same set symbol as BLB. As showcase treatments of the main set, showcase woodland cards are also legal in Standard.

Enchanting Tales and The Big Score are each bonus sheets from their respective sets, Wilds of Eldraine and Outlaws of Thunder Junction. Enchanting Tales and The Big Score both have different set symbols from their main set. The Big Score is also Standard-legal, while Enchanting Tales is not.

Showcase woodland cards, Enchanting Tales, and The Big Score are all part of their respective Limited environments (Bloomburrow Limited, Wilds of Eldraine Limited, and Outlaws of Thunder Junction Limited).

Enchanting Tales was a sheet made of enchantment reprints, while The Big Score was a sheet made mostly of new cards that was repurposed from a planned small set in the same vein as March of the Machine: The Aftermath and its Epilogue boosters.

Showcase woodland cards are certainly very pretty and thematic as a tie-in to Bloomburrow. I especially want some of these legendary creatures in the command zone or in the 99 of my Commander decks.
