The leaks keep coming and they won't stop coming. We're nary a week into Lorwyn Eclipsed and we've already got a taste of Secrets of Strixhaven, a mouthful of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and now a small sampler of Marvel Super Heroes, which doesn't release until June, 2026. No cards from that set have slipped through the cracks (yet), but we now have an [unofficial] look at the four precons coming out alongside that set.

Villians and Heroes Return

Marvel Super Heroes Commander decks

About a half dozen sources have already showcased the four Marvel Super Heroes decks we can expect this summer. The line-up includes:

  • Doom Prevails (): โ€œConnive for Power | Drain Lifeโ€
  • Fantastic Four (): โ€œNoncreature Spells | Protection Fieldsโ€
  • Wakanda Forever (): โ€œPower Up with Artifacts | Reign as the Monarchโ€
  • Avengers Assemble (): โ€œGrow Your Ranks | Equipment and Countersโ€

We already got an official first look at the Fantastic Four deck during WotC's Early Look at the set, which had an emphasis on interchangeable 4-color commanders with the same color identity. That deck describes itself as a sort of defensive spellslinger deck, perhaps best exemplified by Invisible Woman. But now we've got some insight on what else to expect from the precon line-up.

The Grixis precon features Dr. Doom and Loki on the face of #YetAnotherGrixisVillainsDeck, and specifically calls out connive, though that might not necessarily mean a โ€œconniveโ€ deck (blight only appeared on two cards in the Blight Curse deck, after all). Avengers Assemble also has a tag-team on the cover with Captain America and Nick Fury. And finally, you've got poor old Black Panther hoofin' it all by his lonesome on a Selesnya artifacts deck, though calling out the monarch is always intriguing.

The Deck That Never Was

You might be noticing one huge omission here. Um, WotC, where's the X-Men deck? Of all the Marvel properties you could repurpose into a Commander precon, you'd think X-Men would be one of them. Slap Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen's face on an EDH deck and make the people happy, Wizards!

This might actually be good news in the long run for X-Men fans, because it might mean there's still a standalone X-Men set in Magic's future. It seems strange that WotC would float Spider-Man into all of Marvel and then never touch the juggernaut ever again, so we very well might see more Marvel in 2027 and beyond. That's wishful thinking, mostly. Copium, as the kids would say.

Also note that the release of Marvel Super Heroes, the main set and the precons, is the perfect excuse to reprint the mechanically unique Secret Lair cards, like Wolverine, Best There Is and Storm, Force of Nature. It'd be a big smack in the face to see the versions of Captain America and Black Panther we already have as the face commanders of these new decks, but that's super unlikely to happen, and those cards might still appear in the 99 of their respective decks, or even in the main set or an associated bonus sheet.

We're a good ways away from official spoiler season for Marvel Super Heroes, with two more sets to get through first, but at the rate leaks are happening, we might have this set and 2027's Marvel set (unconfirmed) fully revealed by the time we get back to Strixhaven.
