Why Is Cyclonic Rift So Good?

Cyclonic Rift gives you a huge advantage in multiplayer games. Early in the game, you can use it to bounce one problem card. But when you overload it later, it sends all of your opponents' nonland permanents back to their hands while your stuff stays safe. It’s like pressing a reset button on everyone else, giving you a clear path to win the game. This is especially powerful in Commander, where it can completely wipe out three opponents at once.

How Many Versions of Cyclonic Rift Are There?

Cyclonic Rift has been printed 12 times with several variants across multiple sets:

#12. Secret Lair Drop: Hope’s Aero Magic – $27.48

  • Rainbow foil alternative (~$27)
  • Secret Lair exclusive with borderless art

This one comes from a Secret Lair drop and has its own dreamy, painterly art in a full borderless frame. It’s foil-only and feels more like a mini art piece than a regular card—perfect for showing off in your deck. There's also a Japanese Secret Lair version of this.

#11. Commander Masters – $29.30

  • Foil available (~$45)
  • Reprint with standard frame

This version brings back the original art but gives it a shiny finish. It’s a simple upgrade if you like the classic look but want your copy to pop a little more.

#10. Return to Ravnica – $29.77 – Original Printing

  • Foil available (~$50)
  • This is the original 2012 printing
  • Includes the Izzet watermark

This is the original version of Cyclonic Rift, the one that started it all. The art shows a massive, magical blast tearing through the city. The first few reprints reuse this exact artwork.

#9. Commander 2014 – $32.35

This version came in a prebuilt Commander deck and uses the same art as the original. It’s nothing flashy, but it’s perfect if you just want a clean, reliable copy—and yes, it comes in foil too.

#8. Double Masters – $32.53

  • Foil available (~$43)

Double Masters featured a much flashier version of the Cyc Rift reprint, so the traditional version from that set tends to be one of the more affordable copies on the market.

#7. Modern Masters 2017 – $33.13

  • Foil available (~$39)

This is another reprint with the same original art. It was part of a special set made for drafting, so there are a lot of copies out there. That helps keep the price reasonable if you're looking for a budget-friendly version.

#6. Ravnica Remastered – Standard Frame – $47.80

  • Foil available (~$55)
  • Uses the Izzet watermark

This one's a straightforward reprint in a modern frame. It comes with new art and looks clean and crisp—great for someone who likes the classic style but wants a newer print.

#5. Ravnica Remastered – Retro Frame – $47.99

  • Foil available (~$81.77)
  • Uses retro card frame style

If you’re into that old-school Magic look, this version is for you. It uses the new art from Ravnica Remastered and wraps it in a retro card frame that screams nostalgia.

#4. Double Masters – Borderless Box-Topper – $59.76

  • Foil only
  • Unique borderless art included as a premium box-topper

Now this one looks totally different. It features brand-new art in a stunning borderless style and only comes in foil. Since it was a special box topper for Double Masters, it feels extra premium, and the price reflects that.

#3. Ravnica Remastered – Borderless Anime – $60.04

  • Foil available (~$163)
  • Anime art style, highly collectible

This Cyc Rift flips the style completely with bright, action-packed anime art. It’s bold, eye-catching, and a fan favorite among players who love alternate art versions. You can also get it in foil if you want to go extra shiny.

#2. Commander Masters – Foil-Etched – $68.87

  • Special etched foil finish

Here you get the original art again, but with an etched foil treatment that gives it a fancy texture. It's a great pick if you want something more unique than the original without going full borderless.

#1. Ravnica Remastered – Serialized Retro Foil – ~$850

  • Foil-only
  • Numbered out of 500, premium collector release

This is the high-end collector version. It’s foil-only, retro-framed, and each card has a serialized number out of 500. It uses the Ravnica Remastered art but takes rarity to a whole new level in double rainbow foil. Definitely not your average Commander copy.
