Another Magic set, another batch of Commander precons! This time we’re getting into a collection of completely killer Duskmourn Commander decks, most of which touch on major themes from the mainline Standard set. It’s an incredibly fun-looking line-up, with everything from group slug to delirium, and some twists on old favorites.

Let’s take a moment to go over all the new Commander decks, what’s included in each one, and what themes and commanders you can expect from Duskmourn: House of Horror Commander.

Jump Scare! is a Simic () ramp deck with an emphasis on face-down creatures, created primarily with the new manifest dread mechanic. Jump Scare's goal is to surprise your opponents with top-end battlecruisers by manifesting them and then turning them face up at an opportune time. That’s all tied to a typical UG ramp package featuring landfall payoffs and huge late-game green creatures.

Death Toll is a Golgari () graveyard deck focused on the delirium mechanic, or more accurately, on cards with multiple card types. It uses loads of self-mill to put multi-typed cards in the graveyard, after which you can use your reanimation effects to bring back your game-enders. The deck takes on a slightly different role if you bias towards Rendmaw, Creaking Nest as your Golgari commander. If you want to play Death Toll that way, you should shift your attention to playing cards with multiple card types, and care less about what’s in your graveyard.

Endless Punishment is a Rakdos () group slug deck through and through. Your Rakdos commanders and nearly everything in the deck work in service of lowering life totals and wrapping up the game as quickly as possible. You’ll be dealing damage left and right, punishing opponents for taking basic game actions, and sometimes even dealing damage to yourself in the process! Endless Punishment’s pretty one-note strategically, but very focused on the central gameplan.

Miracle Worker is an Esper () enchantress deck with a top-deck matters subtheme. There’s a small emphasis on the miracle mechanic, and the ultimate goal is to slam big enchantment finishers on board rather than the usual attrition/pillow fort elements of enchantress decks. Those still exist, but Miracle Worker really wants to get something like One with the Multiverse in play and win from there.

There you go, the basics on Duskmourn Commander, a pretty strong precon line-up compared to recent offerings. I made no mention of the Archenemy tie-in here, but keep in mind each of these Duskmourn EDH precons was designed with the intention of working as Archenemy decks, and comes with a set of scheme cards. Try it out if you get the opportunity!

Otherwise, you’ve just got a set of four decks with unique twists on typical tried-and-true themes. These decks manage to feel distinct from previous precon offerings, even though none of them are revolutionary. The product as a whole gets my approval, which honestly, is harder and harder to get with each new set of precons that comes out.
