The product line-up for Marvel Super Heroes has been officially spoiled, including Marvel Super Heroesโ€˜ย  Scene Boxes, and three out of the the four face Commanders have been leaked already.

So, before we proceed:

โ€“ SPOILER ALERT!!! THIS ARTICLE COVERS UNOFFICIAL LEAKS ABOUT AN UPCOMING MTG SET!!

According to reddit posters, WotC accidentally included the back of the boxes for the commander decks (and many other items) in their product listings. This was almost a moot point as the entire Super Heroes product line-up was officially revealed the next day. While we were given a proper look at the Scene boxes from this set, we weren't supposed to get a close-up look of the cards included in those boxes yet.

Marvel Scene Box Cards Leaked

Wizards of the Coast as already officially shown us the box cover of the Heroes United scene cardsโ€ฆ but the actual cards have now unofficially been leaked on reddit: Six legendary heroes, all of them mono-color, spread across the Jeskai commander color identity (which, as we'll see in a bit, is also the color identity of the Commander precon focusing on hero kindred).

The same has happened on the opposite side of the Good-Bad spectrum: WotC has already officially shown the cover for the baddies' boxโ€ฆ

โ€ฆ and yesterday reddit leaked the actual cards from Villains Unleashed. Interestingly, in this case a couple of Villains won't fit into the Villains kindredtribal precon, since that precon's identity is Grixis (and therefore doesn't include ):

As you'd expect from an MTG set aimed at attracting new players to Magic, most of the cards' designs are fairly straightforward. It's kind of cute that the probably two best cards happen to be family: Thor, Guardian of Midgard is a nice impulse draw effect, while Loki, God of Lies turns targeting into a Treason effect.

And they are both red, which seems like a clear nudge to have them in the same deck.

There's another baddie with an interesting effect and which should slot nicely into its kindred precon: M.O.D.O.K., Evil Intellect, who turns your second draw into an edict effect (and works every turn, by the way, include your foes'!).

And we know this because, in another of yesterday's leaks, we got a glimpse of three of the Marvel face commanders!

T'Challa, the Black Panther

Black Panther heads the Wakanda Forever () precon, described as โ€œPower Up with Artifacts | Reign as the Monarchโ€

Source: Scryfall

T'Challa, the Black Panther is a human noble hero who creates a tapped Vibranium token when entering or attacking, and that gets two +1/+1 counters whenever you cast an artifact spell with mana value 4 or greater.

โ€œSelesnya Artifacts is interesting, but I can't really think of any Wakandan characters that would be Artifact creatures,โ€ notes u/AporiaParadox, โ€œso I'm guessing the deck will focus more on non-creature Artifacts.โ€

It seems like a very safe bet that this precon will also be about becoming the Monarch, from what the box saysโ€ฆ but nothing we can glean about that from its commander.

Captain America, Team Leader

Captain America leads the Jeskai precon, Avengers Assemble, described as, โ€œGrow Your Ranks | Equipment and Countersโ€:

It's a pretty safe bet that Captain America, Team Leader won't be the most powerful Jeskai commander ever printed, and enfranchised players are not exactly in love with its design, but, well, yeah, should be a fairly straightforward Hero typal commander.

Besides its (perhaps excessive) simplicity, the problem for Cap is that there aren't that many Jeskai heroes that we've seen thus far that would be super-happy to answer his call. That being said, Spider-Man did have a (very fringe) modified-matters theme, as seen in heroes like Araรฑa, Heart of the Spiderโ€ฆ

Araรฑa, Heart of the Spider

โ€ฆ that could attack as a hasty 5/5 with Captain America, Team Leader in play, and cares about counters on it (since a creature with counters is modified).

Something similar happens with SP//dr, Piloted by Peniโ€ฆ

โ€ฆ or Skyward Spiderโ€ฆ

Skyward Spider

โ€ฆ although, all in all, Cap's job seems to be โ€œGive new players a simple commander to play with, and that lets them attack right away with other heroes they playโ€.

Doctor Doom, King of Latveria

Alright, now we're talking! Still on the โ€œFairly Simpleโ€ end of the spectrum, but Doctor Doom, King of Latveria, the Grixis commander who leads the Doom Prevails precon, has quite a few things going for it.

Source: Scryfall

For starters, here we have a very clear connection with several of the villains of Spider-Man, including the connive keyword.

And although non-green commander caring about lands may sound weird at first, what Doctor Doom, King of Latveria does is it pretty much โ€œfixesโ€ connive: When a creature connives you're never too happy to have to discard a land, since it gives you no bonusโ€ฆ but the good Doctor now burns the whole table for 2 in that scenario.

Norman Osborn and its backside, Green Goblin, seem to fit like an iron glove into Doom's plan:

Norman OsbornGreen Goblin

Norman Osborn will give you an extra connive trigger when it connects, which should be easy since it can't be blocked. And Green Goblin is a great payoff both for a full graveyard, and for discarding.

Prowler, Clawed Thief connives just by playing other villainsโ€ฆ

โ€ฆ while Tombstone, Career Criminal makes playing those villains all the easier:

Then we have three other Green Goblin flavors that are all happy when you discard cards, including Green Goblin, Nemesis who specifically cares about you discarding lands:

Last but not least, Shriek, Treblemaker lets you discard while helping your connivers connectโ€ฆ

Shriek, Treblemaker

โ€ฆ while providing extra burn when your opponents' creatures die.

And, yeah, this is a Doom deck. Of course there will be plenty of dying when Doom Reigns Supreme!
