About the Set

Weathered Wayfarer | Illustration by Dermot Power
Double Masters 2022 is the second line of supplemental reprints in the Double Masters name. It carries an additional rare and at least two cards in every pack and is full of fan-favorite cards including everything from Wrenn and Six to Kozilek, Butcher of Truth. These “Masters” sets are also a great opportunity for WotC to give some cards some much needed reprints, especially those that are practically staples in every Eternal format.
But most notable is that each pack is still meant to be drafted. And to make things more interesting, each player can pick two cards from their first pack instead of just one when drafting Double Masters 2022. This makes for much more exciting Drafts and prevents players from having to pass two expensive rares they might want.

Set Mechanics
Double Masters 2022 is a reprint set, which means while we'll see a few mechanics shine brighter than the others, it won't have as much of a coherent set of mechanics like a set such as Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate would have. That being said, we're still likely to see a collection of reprints that share mechanics like evoke or cascade.
Evoke

We've already seen Mulldrifter and Aethersnipe in the spoilers, which means evoke is likely to be one of the more prevalent mechanics in the set. The mechanic allows players to pay an alternative—usually cheaper—cost to get the ability of the card without the body of the creature that it is on.

Notable Cards
Wrenn and Six

While only a handful of cards have been spoiled so far, Wrenn and Six has been confirmed as an included planeswalker in the set. This may come as a shock to a lot of Modern grinders who speculated that the card would get a ban of some sort in the format.
This inclusion in an upcoming set, especially so prominently, acts as a semi-confirmation that Wrenn will be sticking around for some time.

Wrap Up

That wraps up just about everything we know about Double Masters 2022 so far. I’m super excited for the set so far and I can’t wait to get to my local game store on release weekend for some sweet Sealed and Draft pods.
What do you think of the set? Are you tired of more supplemental reprint sets, or are you giddy with the excitement of the allied fetches decreasing in price from a potential reprint? Let me know what you think down in the comments or over in the official Draftsim Discord.
Until next time, stay safe and stay healthy!
