For anyone who's been patiently waiting around, wondering why they hadn't been invited to the Everyone's Invited Secret Lair party, wait no further! Wizards officially announced the complete decklist and release date today, after teasing the release with the help of some content creators over the past few weeks.

When, Where, and How Much?

According to the official announcement, the deck drops on Monday, May 12 on MagicSecretLair.com. It'll be available at 9:00am PST / 12:00pm EST, the same time as โ€œThe Ultimate Pencil Superdropโ€ that was also announced today.

That means there will be lots of traffic on the website and likely high demand for this Commander deck, so get in there as soon as you possibly can if you want to snag a copy. The price is $199.99 (aka expensive).

The Everyone's Invited deck looks like a mixed bag of surprisingly great and unexpected reprints, and some complete duds that you wouldn't expect at this price point. Yes, the theme is changelings and shapeshifters, but no one's getting out of their seat for Fire-Belly Changeling and Impostor of the Sixth Pride, no matter how thematic they are. On the flip side, there are some great reprints here, like Black Market Connections, Bitterblossom, and Coat of Arms. It definitely leans on the good/creative side more than the filler side.

There is one extremely glaring issue though, which isn't uncommon for WotC precons: The mana base is pretty bad. It's a typical Commander precon manabase full of low-tier tri-lands and second-rate filter lands. There are some cute additions like the Lorwyn typal lands (Ancient Amphitheater, Wanderwine Hub), but aside from a Mutavault and The World Tree, there's little to be excited about here. Not only is this just a below-the-bar manabase for a 5-color deck to begin with, but at a price-point of $200 you'd expect at least a throw-in Triome, fetch land, or shock of some sort.

Manabase aside, you can expect the following as part of this Secret Lair drop:

  • 10 Borderless double rainbow foils with new artwork
  • 1 Non-foil Rin and Seri, Inseparable
  • 89 Non-foil Planeswalker-stamped reprints
  • 10 Non-foil double-sided tokens
  • 4 Double rainbow foil Shapeshifter tokens
  • 1 Morophon, the Boundless display card

While the deck loses serious points on a skimpy manabase, the reprint choices are fun and interesting. The theme here being changelings and various creature types, WotC dug up some unique choices to round out the deck. Some examples include:

And of course, the thing most people will be interested in for their $200 investment: How does the deck fare on reprints? Honestly, not too bad! Outside the manabase, there's a smattering of great money cards and Commander staples, so there's something here to satisfy everyone. Some of the most notable cards include:

Basically, the shapeshifter theme means the deck is filled with generically powerful typal payoff cards, as well as a bunch of one-offs for specific creature types. The price is steep, but the concept and new art sparks joy, so hopefully those interested in getting a copy can do so on the morning of May 12th.
