Rulebending Reality Fracture Instant Enables Insane Tutor and Cast Combo

When Jace's Machinations was revealed in the Reality Fracture debut stream, a few astute players quickly realized the potential it has with a forgotten planeswalker, Kasmina, Enigma Sage. It seems like with the right cards, you can use these two cards to end up with a win as early as turn three. Let's break it down.

The Combo

The basis of the combo is Kasmina, Enigma Sage granting its abilities to other planeswalkers you control. Casting Jace's Machinations gives you a Jace planeswalker token with eight loyalty counters on it, and so you can immediately activate the -8 ability that is granted to it by Kasmina, searching your library for a blue instant or sorcery and cast it for free.

Usually this will mean searching your library for Emergent Ultimatum, which is a self contained combo of sorts. Emergent Ultimatum lets you search for three more cards, which will be Enter the Infinite, Omniscience, and Beseech the Mirror. Your opponent gets to choose which two to give you, but any combination of these three still (usually) results in a win.

If they give you Omniscience and Enter the Infinite, you can simply draw your whole deck, put a card back, and then cast Thassa's Oracle for the win. If they give you Omniscience and Beseech the Mirror, you can simply search your library for Enter the Infinite and cast it for free thanks to Omniscience, again winning with Thassa's Oracle.

If they give you Beseech the Mirror and Enter the Infinite, things get a little tricky, as you can only win from here if you have an artifact, token, or enchantment in play to bargain with Beseech the Mirror. If you do, you'll cast both spells, resolving Enter the Infinite first to draw your library and put a Thassa's Oracle back on top, then resolve Beseech the Mirror which you bargained something with, allowing you to search your library for the only card in it, Thassa's Oracle, and cast it for free to win the game.

Supporting Pieces

This is a pretty complex combo line, but if you play a mana dork such as Llanowar Elves on turn one, you can do this all on turn three. The mana dork allows you to cast either Jace's Machinations or Kasmina, Enigma Sage on turn two, and on turn three you can cast the other one plus something like an Oath of Nissa or Mox Amber so you can have something to sacrifice to Beseech the Mirror.

Depending on what format you're playing this deck in, it also comes with a few more supporting pieces. As it stands, this combo works in Pioneer and Modern, but if you're playing it in modern you have access to Merchant Scroll to find Jace's Machinations. In either format, there's also the new Loyal Tutor, which can go find you your all-important Kasmina, Enigma Sage for the combo.

Overall, this seems like a pretty solid combo–the kind that will actually see play and perhaps spawn an archetype around itself. Ultimately what it all comes down to is consistency, but if it turns out to be consistent in the way it needs to be, then there's no doubt this will become a real deck. At that point, it's a matter of finding the right list and proper tweaks to make it function as optimally as possible. Until then, I suppose we'll just have to wait and see how it pans out.
