Unbans in Commander have been the talk of the week in the Magic card market, with the lucky winners going through the roof.

And we also learned this week about Hasbro's biggest mistake last year: They didn't print enough money cards.

No, yes: really!

Lutri, the Spellchaser โ€“ 1200%

Lutri, the Spellchaser

Lutri, the Spellchaser is the left-field surprise that nobody saw coming!

The reason for Lutri's spike is pretty straightforward: It was one of the two cards unbanned for Commander in WotC's Banned and Restricted Announcement last Monday.

The thing is, nobody was expecting it. Several other cards had spiked during the weekend on rumors and hopes that they would be unbanned. But Lutri's unban caught everybody by surprise: The price for some versions went up twenty times the day of the announcement, and even if things have cooled off since Monday, most printings of Lutri are still up 1,200% or more since last Friday.

Lutri can now be your Izzet commander, or be in the 99, but cannot be your companion in Commander.

Lys Alana Huntmaster โ€“ 100% to 700%

This week, we got official confirmation from Wizards of the Coast that Lorwyn Eclipsed is selling like hot cakes.

And if you've been following the Magic card market, it won't be news that ECL has pushed up the price of a lot of elves, given the great new toys that this set has brought to the elfball archetype.

Lys Alana Huntmaster

This week, it looks like it's the turn for Lys Alana Huntmaster, which doubled in price for the Jumpstart 2022 reprintโ€ฆ

โ€ฆ and has gone up as much as 700% for premium chase versions

As with many other elves going up, the usual suspect is High Perfect Morcant, one of Lorwyn Eclipsedโ€˜s most popular commanders and where Lys Alana Huntmaster sees play 67% of the time. But this is pretty much a case of โ€œA Lorwyn tide lifts all elven boatsโ€: Classic elf commander Lathril, Blade of the Elves has been very popular this week, and the Huntmaster has always seen play with her.

Voidmage Prodigy โ€“ 470% (Magic Player Rewards printing)

Kai Budde, the greatest Magic player of all time, passed away on January 19, 2026. On February 3rd, Wizard of the Coast published โ€œThe Eternal Juggernaut: A Tribute to Kai Budde Magic,โ€ by Hall of Famer Frank Karsten.

The price of the Magic Player Rewards version of Voidmage Prodigy (a Magic Invitational card, which Kai helped design, and which shows Kai in the art) consequentially went up nearly five times.

Gilt-Leaf Palace โ€“ 125%

Gilt-Leaf Palace is neither terribly popular nor has too much competitive successโ€ฆ

Gilt-Leaf Palace

โ€ฆ but it does say โ€œElfโ€ in rules text, fits will with most elf commanders (including of course Hight Perfect Morcant and Lathril, Blade of the Elves), and it's fairly scarce: The original printing is from the original Lorwyn, and it has only been reprinted in The List and as a Secret Lair.

Scarcity and fitting the current hot archetype is a great combo for pushing up prices: Gilt-Leaf Palace has rarely been below $4โ€“$5 in the last couple of years. And this week we see it jump from close to $7 last Friday, to nearly $15 today.

Biorhythm โ€“ 115%

Nobody saw Lutri, the Spellchaserโ€˜s unban coming. Biorhythm, on the other handโ€ฆ

Biorhythm

โ€ฆ is the type of win condition that players have been wondering for quite a while if it'd be back or not: Ever since Wizards of the Coast took full control of Commander, Biorhythm has periodically gone up whenever โ€œWe're so back!โ€ rumors spiked, and remained at its new high even after its unban didn't pan out; earlier this year, Biorhythm was priced around $10.ย

As Andy reported earlier this week, that's exactly what happened during the weekend, with Biorhythm going up to about $20 before the B&R announcement. But this time, at long last, it was different: WotC really unbanned the green sorcery, and we had another spike after the announcement, pushingit all the way past $50.

Like Lutri, things have cooled down a bit by now, but we're still way over $40 for near-mint copies in the US market.

Hasbro's Earnings Call

Hasbro (owners of Wizards of the Coast) reported their Q4 and full-year results this week. And Magic was the absolute belle of the ball in Hasbro's earnings call.

Financially, 2025 was Magic's best year ever. Final Fantasy, as we already knew, became the best-selling MTG set of all time, but Hasbro's CEO Chris Cocks also revealed that Avatar: The Last Airbender has become the #3 best MTG set of all time.

In-universe sets are also having a great time, with Lorwyn Eclipsed already setting a record pace as the fastest-selling in-universe premier set. Hasbro's CEO literally mentioned a constraint on the supply side (as in, WotC not printing enough cards) as one of the reasons they didn't sell more.

Wizards of the Coast is, almost literally, printing money.
