Blue did well in Reality Fracture, probably because the set was built around a blue characterโ€ฆ though funnily enough, the interesting blue cards are planeswalker or creatures, not instants or sorceries.

From controlling pieces to combo enablers to busted card advantage engines, most blue mages can find something to upgrade their decks. Letโ€™s look at the best blue cards Reality Fracture offers.

What Are Blue Cards in Reality Fracture?

This list ranks cards with a mono-blue color identity in Reality Fracture. Since weโ€™re counting color identity, that includes artifacts with blue pips but a colorless cost. Reprints and new cards are ranked separately, and the Commander precon will be considered as well.

Best Reprints

Proteus Staff

Proteus Staff is the only meaningful blue reprint, but what a reprint! This Polymorph on a stick is one of the best repeatable ways to turn an insignificant token into a monstrous threat, and its inclusion in the Multiverse Reforged precon makes it easier to grab than ever.

Best New Cards

#10. Arni, Humble Scribe

Arni, Humble Scribe

Looters are a dime a dozen in Magic, but looters that untap themselves are often worth a second glance. Arni, Humble Scribe might be too slow at 3 mana, but looting multiple times in a turn lets you see so many cards and fills the graveyard well.

#9. Jaceโ€™s Machinations

Jace's Machinations

Jace's Machinations is one of the most notable empower Jace cards because it adds so much loyalty for so little mana. If you see people discussing empower Jace combos with cards like Liliana's Talent, this card makes them work. Itโ€™s also worth noting this lets you activate your Jace tokens twice in a turn cycle, as long as you cast it on an opponent's turn, which could be the difference between getting a sweet ultimate and not.

#8. Jace, Reality Sculptor

Jace, Reality Sculptor

Of the three Jace planeswalkers in this set, Jace, Reality Sculptor is the weakest, but Iโ€™m still interested. Mostly in the -3: -5/-0 is a pretty significant form of protection. Most small creatures canโ€™t profitably attack, and even bigger ones become easy to block. Iโ€™m not sure about upticking to empower Jace, but I can see this doing well in a proliferate-heavy shell that uses the -3 every turn.

#7. Sphinxโ€™s Approach

Sphinx's Approach

Sphinx's Approach is a fascinating card that plays off Dragon's Approach. This card looks better. Drawing cards means drawing more Approaches, and this is actually a card you want to cast since it does something. Being an instant means you can hold this up alongside countermagic and play a reasonable control game.

#6. Fblthp, Impossibly Lost

Fblthp, Impossibly Lost

Fblthp, Impossibly Lost plays in the design space of Coastal Piracy. It loses the high ceiling of uncapped card draw but it costs half what Piracy and its peers do, so you can get this down and start to draw cards as early as turn 2. It's closer to Chart a Course with random alternate wincon text.

#5. Seasoned Cryomancer

Seasoned Cryomancer

Seasoned Cryomancer does a great job ripping through your library and filling up your hand. Like Seasoned Pyromancer, itโ€™s a fantastic graveyard synergy piece because it gets cards in the graveyard while the activated ability means you donโ€™t mind discarding or milling it.

#4. Chandra, Chill of Compliance

Chandra, Chill of Compliance

What really jumps out about Chandra, Chill of Compliance is the extra step it takes to โ€œdrawโ€ your card. Since you surveil a noncreature, nonland card away, then put it in your hand, it counts as a card being put into and leaving the graveyard. Beyond that, itโ€™s a tidy little spellslinger Commander card Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ll see plenty of.

#3. The Theorist, Jace Beleren

The Theorist, Jace Beleren

The Theorist, Jace Beleren is notably designed to scale in Commander. The static ability gets better with three draw steps to pilfer, and the bounce portion hits all your opponents, so it meaningfully protects Jace in a way that โ€œbounce target permanentโ€ never could. The ultimate is fine, but I wouldnโ€™t worry much about it. I think of this as more as a draw engine than a win condition.

#2. Geist of Saint Thalia

Geist of Saint Thalia

Geist of Saint Thalia is far from blueโ€™s only cost reducer, but itโ€™s one of the more unrestricted ones. Itโ€™s Etherium Sculptor, Baral, Chief of Compliance, and Jukai Naturalist rolled into one card, so expect to see it in a number of diverse blue decks.

#1. Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun

Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun

Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun has drawn the eye of more players than any other blue card because of its simple yet nasty text box. Giving your spells split second is like giving them uncounterable, but it also messes with ways to circumnavigate that like Reprieve or Mindbreak Trap. Whether itโ€™s forcing through a Demonic Tutor or engaging in a counter war, Samut gives you the final say in what happens.

Blue got exciting toys in Reality Fracture. Iโ€™m especially interested in Samut and Saint Thalia as future staples; their applications are broad enough to see play in a range of decks and power levels.
