Eldrazi? In my space odyssey set?
Well, maybe. There's actually quite a bit known about Edge of Eternities already, thanks to some early previews and WotC's official Planeswalker's Guide to EOE, which covers all the major factions, settings, and ideologies of Magic's next big Standard set.
But some of the content we've seen so far has got people thinking it might be setting up the return of one of Magic's biggest factions. So, will Eldrazi make an appearance in the set? All signs point towardsโฆ maybe?
Return of an Artist
Welcome back, Aleksi Briclot! Edge of Eternities marks the return of the French Magic artist, who hasn't created card art for the game since Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, where he illustrated Wulfgar of Icewind Dale, Clattering Skeletons, and Asmodeus the Archfiend. They have a very dynamic art style that appears on just under 100 cards pre-EOE, and they've even got an Artist Series Secret Lair featuring four cards that come together for a panoramic view of an Eldrazi wasteland.
And that's the thing: To some extent, Briclot is associated with depictions of Eldrazi creatures, with 11 of his illustrations either being or depicting the eldritch creatures in some way. This includes some of the heavy-hitting titans like Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre and Kozilek, the Great Distortion.

So, there's some speculation that Briclot's returning to Magic after a short hiatus specifically because WotC needs an Eldrazi artist for the set. Granted, the only known piece of art by Briclot for the set so far is one of some space warrior slashing through some other space being, nothing particularly eldritch about it. Artists often contribute 2-5 pieces of work for any given set, so we can expect to see more beyond this one, admittedly badass image.

People have been quick to point out this illustration by Joshua Raphael, featured in the Planeswalker's Guide. It's definitely alien in nature, and even if it's not an actual Eldrazi, you can see the resemblance, down to the purple coloring often associated with Emrakul.
Other Evidence

Maybe it's just a heavy dose of copium for Eldrazi-lovers, but there are some other factors that contribute to the theory of Eldrazi at least being mentioned in Edge of Eternities. The most obvious is the name of the set itself. โEternitiesโ is evocative of โThe Blind Eternities,โ a space in Magic's multiverse that exists between planes, in which the Eldrazi reside. Edge of Eternities supposedly takes place just beyond that, though the reference seems intentional. Magic's not exactly subtle about their set names, either (remember Eldritch Moon, the set that brought Eldrazi back to Innistrad?).
The Blind Eternities have also been name-dropped in recent Magic stories. The final episode of Tarkir: Dragonstormโs story featured characters entering and ultimately shattering The Meditation Realm, which is heavily linked to The Blind Eternities. Stupid Jace did Jace things that ultimately resulted in the release of Nicol Bolas from his imprisonment, so why not free up the Eldrazi too?

And the best evidence of the Eldrazi's return in EOE? They're name-dropped in the Planeswalker's Guide! There's mention of a race known as Drix, beings that can travel faster than light, who are essentially in charge of containing hostile foreign entities, and the article specifically mentions โresidual Eldrazi contamination from the Eldrazi-Fomori warโฆ.โ Hey look, another Fomori name drop too! Whatever the Eldrazi-Fomori war was, it's clear that there's some sort of residual Eldrazi presence in the setting, and therefore, likely in the set itself.
The Evidence Against

Of course, all signs pointing to the return of Eldrazi might be mere references or Easter Eggs, or red herrings. Purply, tentacled red herrings.
For one, Edge of Eternitiesโ story exists outside of, or at least adjacent to its current ongoing lore. That's not to say it can't feature Eldrazi, but more that it would seem strange to reintroduce such a potent threat in what's essentially a one-off story.
There's also the return of Nicol Bolas clouding all this theorycrafting. Why bring Magic's biggest big bad back into the fold just to overshadow or undermine it by bringing back another one of Magic's biggest collective antagonists at the same time. Wait a secondโฆ is Bolas going to manipulate the Eldrazi to do his bidding? Is this the long-awaited Emrakul/Bolas mash-up that nobody knew they wanted until now?
Oh yeah, and there's Emrakul too. She's kind ofโฆ stuck in a moon on Innistrad, or something. But you know what people think of when they think of moons? Cheese! Space! And what better place to give a nod to Lunar Emrakul (you can use the name, you're welcome WotC) than the literal outer space set?
We'll have more answers in the coming weeks as Edge of Eternities spoilers start dropping. This is the last set of 2025 that'll have proper MTG lore anyway while good MTG writing goes on an extended commercial break with Spider-Man in New York and Avatar: The Last Airbender inโฆ wherever ATLA takes place. Whatever ends up happening in Edge of Eternities, it certainly has the possibility to set up some big story beats for the early 2026 sets, Lorwyn Eclipsed and Strixhaven and the Chamber of Secrets. Er, uh, Secrets of Strixhaven. Yeah, that's it.
