If you've logged into MTG Arena lately, you probably noticed a BoxLunch promotion on the main Play page. Don't worry, this isn't some retailer Universes Beyond crossover (yet), but the โpop culture merchโ store clearly made a deal with Magic: The Gathering for the holiday season.

Attire and swag aside, there was also an exclusive promo available at participating BoxLunch stores. All you had to do was spend $50 and a fancy alternate art Iroh, Grand Lotus was yours for the taking. And early pricing shows that this was mostly a net-positive inclusion for anyone who wanted to make a quick buck and walk away with some BoxLunch merch.
Wait, What Iroh Promo?

You might've missed this promo if you aren't perpetually online like the rest of usโthough you are here right now, so maybe that doesn't descibe you.
One Iroh, Grand Lotus promo was given to customers who spent $50 or more at BoxLunch on November 21, the release date for Avatar: The Last Airbender. No need to make a trip out to the mall though, since the promo was only given out for one day, and has already officially ended.

That's a sweet exclusive promo though, since Iroh's an imminently playable Commander card: This Temur () version of Iroh is currently the fifth most popular commander from Avatar, which is saying quite a bit for a set that has over 100 new legendary creatures. It also seems that people have put that $50 limit to good use, and are selling these promos online for well above the buy-in price.

eBay's not always the best indicator of new card prices, but it's the only place you'll find a number on these Iroh promos right now, since this particular version isn't even listed on TCGplayer/MTGStocks yet. Seems people have taken to the idea that since you had to spend $50 to get the promo in the first place, that it should sell for at least $50. The lowest listed price on eBay is currently $55, with most listings in the $60-70 range.
In other words, if you wanted to put in some small amount of effort listing and shipping a card through eBay, the Iroh promo was a quick way to turn a trip to BoxLunch into a $10-20 profit.
Will the Price Stabilize?

Hard to say. It's rare for Wizards of the Coast to promote a card this way, so there aren't many comparison points to make with other exclusive promos like this. It makes sense that people would ask around the $50 range since that's the number attached to the initial promotion, though given that normal versions of Iroh, Grand Lotus are sub $1 a piece, it wouldn't be too surprising to see the alternate version dip by quite a bit over time, once marketplaces start getting a hold of them.
That said, this is a promo of a well-loved character from an extremely popular franchise, and a popular commander to boot, so it'd be equally unsurprising to see the promo maintain its starting price, or even increase over time. Remember, Universes Beyond cards like this have few opportunities to be reprinted, so it's unlikely you'll see this art used anywhere in this future, which makes it even more exclusive.
It also raises the question of whether we'll see more promos like this in the future. Hot Topic exclusive Donatellos for TMNT? William Shatner Star Trek promos if you spend $50 or more at Build-A-Bear? Buy an Auntie Anne's pretzel bite bucket and get an alternate art Marvel Super Heroes Rocket Raccoon for free? Mall-based MTG crossovers are truly untapped territory.
