In an unexpected turn of events, Wizards of the Coast announced that Marvel Super Heroes will come to Magic Arena as the true Marvel set it is, not Through the Omenpaths II, as many players speculated.

The fate of the set was up in the air following Marvelโ€™s Spider-Man, which hit MTGA and MTGO reskinned with characters and art based in the Magic multiverse rather than the streets of New York. Common speculation was that Wizards couldnโ€™t secure digital rights to Marvelโ€™s IP, which were likely exclusively to Marvel SNAP!, but it seems like something broke in Wizardโ€™s favor.

What Does This Mean for Marvel Super Heroes?

The most important thing this means for Marvel Super Heroes is that the set released on digital platforms will be identical to those released in paper, which is sure to be a dream for new players entering the game because they love Marvel.

In truth, very little about the MSH release will be impacted by this; this announcement is more of a โ€œthings will be normalโ€ as opposed to โ€œSPM having a weird release.โ€ Wizards did note that there will be no Through the Omenspath art for MSH, nor any future Marvel sets. The main set this will have a major impact on is Marvelโ€™s Spider-Man.

Of course, the big question is: What does this mean for players who already have a robust collection featuring OM1 cards, not anything to do with Spider-Man? Well, Wizards has a plan for this, and it starts June 16 (about a week prior to MSHโ€™s release on Arena).

Just like MSH, all the SPM art will hit Arena, along with a couple of goodies that never came out, like Spider-Man avatars and the spiderweb basic lands. The source material cards will also have their art updated to what they released with: iconic panels from Spider-Manโ€™s lengthy comic book run.

When it comes to playersโ€™ collections, the plan is to give each player copies of the cards they own from OM1 with the original SPM printing. So, if you own exactly one copy of Leyline Weaver, youโ€™ll get exactly one copy of Spider Manifestation, the card the Weaver reskinned. Youโ€™ll still only have one copy of the card. Though the set name will change under the collecting tab, this grant shouldnโ€™t impact your collection progress. Additionally, the cards will still be searchable with the Through the Omenpaths codes s:OM1 and s:OMB.

If you love your Fleems and Leyline Weavers (or just detest Universes Beyond), youโ€™ll still have access to that artwork: Through the Omenpaths printings will still be available to players as a card style they can apply to their cards as they like. This also means you can set OM1 to be your default card skins, so you donโ€™t need to familiarize yourself with a new set if you donโ€™t want to.

For players who havenโ€™t opened any SPM cards on Arena and still want the in-universe art, the article promised that Through the Omenpaths card styles will become available in the shop for gold and gems, though there was no information about whether or not this would include all possible arts.
