Unknown EOE art โ€“ Yohann Schepacz

The Edge of Eternities leaks keep coming, and they don't stop coming, and are starting to look like a deluge now! The batch of low-quality images that were leaked a week ago, and the mythic land leaked two days ago, has now been joined by four new leaks (courtesy of the MTGRumors subreddit), and these are by far the most impactful Edge of Eternities cards that have been leaked thus far.

As you may guess from this article's title and this introduction, SPOILER WARNING! If you'd rather enjoy EOE reveals at their official pace, you won't need to wait too long since they start right next week.

But if you want an early peek, read on!

Consult the Star Charts: A More Flexible Memory Deluge

Source: Reddit

A blue instant that normally costs , and that you can kick to , Consults the Star Charts looks like it can compete (and in some control decks probably collaborate) with Stock Up for the title of โ€œBest Card Draw in Standard.โ€

Another good comparison is with Memory Deluge, which rotated out of Standard last year and that saw quite a bit of play during its Standard tenure.

Even Modern players seem cautiously optimistic about Consult the Star Charts, comparing it to Pillage the Bog.

โ€œDespite a lot of hype, Pillage the Bog didn't catch on. Bog looks at more cards than this does, but in exchange it's instant speed and blue. Those are always big pluses for playability,โ€ notes u/Reaper_Eagle on the Modern MTG subreddit. โ€œIt is competing with Stock Up, which will always look at 5 cards and โ€˜draw' two at sorcery speed. That's shockingly stiff competition. I'd expect these cards to really fight it out, though I'm inclined to think that Stock Up wins the fight.โ€

Temporary Lockdown Is Dead โ€“ Long Live Pinnacle Starcage!

Source: Reddit

Temporary Lockdown will rotate out of Standard when Edge of Eternities arrive, to great rejoice of anybody that loves jamming 1- and 2-drops. But, according to these leaks, the joy will be short-lived. A white artifact with the exact same cost, Pinnacle Starcage provides a very similar weenie boardwipe.

There are a couple of important differences, though, that make this white artifact worse than Temporary Lockdown

โ€œIt being an artifact will mean it's much less oppressive to aggro decks than Lockdown was,โ€ notes u/Cervantes3. Artifacts are much easier to interact with than enchantments, above all for red decks, which are going to be Pinnacle Starcageโ€˜s main target.

โ€œArtifact hate is way more common,โ€ agrees u/Krist794, โ€œGreen, white and red have cheap and versatile options to remove artifacts, and those are the colors interested in going wide.โ€

And Pinnacle Starcage doesn't touch enchantments or planeswalkers, which is a downside in a format where cheap enchantments like Stormchaser's Talent, Roiling Dragonstorm, or Insidious Roots all see a lot of play.

But with how good Temporary Lockdown is in the current Standard format, it's a very safe bet that the artifact โ€œWe have Lockdown at homeโ€ version will see play too.

Evendo, Waking Haven: Gaea's Cradle Redux

Source: Reddit

Another โ€œWe have this at homeโ€ฆ but IN SPACE!โ€ card, Evendo, Waking Haven is part of a new cycle of โ€œLand โ€“ Planetโ€ cards. And this one looks pretty close to Commander staple Gaea's Cradle.ย

โ€œCool to see this,โ€ notes u/justbuysingles in one of the most upvoted replies to the leak thread. โ€œGaea's Cradle at home is still pretty huge.โ€

Another comparison that comes to mind is with Growing Rites of Itlimoc, which is also a variation of โ€œGaea's Cradle, but let's make players jump a couple of hoops to make it more balanced.โ€ In this case, the safety valves are entering tapped, and the upcoming Station keyword which does two things:

  • Allows the Station permanent to tap your creatures, at sorcery speed, to get charge counters equal to the tapped creature's power, and
  • Gives the Station permanent some extra abilities if they have enough charge counters on them (in Evendo, Waking Haven's case, it cosplays as Gaea's Cradle when it reaches 12 charge counters).

Tapping enough creatures to turn Evendo, Waking Haven online is no small ask, of course. One route could be โ€œcan't attack or blockโ€ creatures like The Ancient One , which tend to have bigger-than-average stats for their cost.

But it looks like Edge of Eternities will have at least one mechanic that will help charge station permanents quite fast: Warp, which was seen in another leak, Anticausal Vestige.

Source: Reddit

Warp lets you play a permanent for a reduced cost and exile it at your end step โ€“ but you'll be able to tap it during that turn to fuel station permanents like Evendo, Waking Haven, or the other mythic land that was leaked yesterday, Susur Secundi, Void Altar.

Cosmogrand Zenith

Source: Reddit

Will some version of White Weenies, or Boros Weenies, be playable in EOE Standard? Based on the emerging post-ban meta, it sure seems like it. Cosmogrand Zenith looks like the sort of card you'll want either to drop on curve if you're facing faster aggro decks, or on turn four plus another 1-drop. Having the option to make your board wider or taller, as the situation demands, feels great.

And They Don't Stop Coming!

As noted, the EOE leaks are more like a deluge โ€“ and there are a bunch of them, apparently from a French Discord, that are being posted on Reddit as we speak.

So stay tuned, since we'll have more of them in an article later today!
