Some of the best parts of Universes Beyond sets are the inclusion of strange new creature types Iโ€™d have never seen otherwise. We have the moogles front and center in Final Fantasy, strange little mammalian creatures that primarily appear in white colors.

What do these little critters do, and how can you use them to their fullest potential? Letโ€™s dig into it.

What Are Moogles in MTG?

Moogles are primarily white cards that care about small bodies and making tokens. Thereโ€™s also two red moogles to play, and a few legends.

In the context of Final Fantasy, moogles are a race of small creatures that primarily serve as support and flavor, with their primary role being that of a franchise mascot, rather like Pikachu is for Pokรฉmon.

Thisranking includes creature cards with the moogle subtype and anything that creates Moogle tokens.

#8. Cloudbound Moogle

Cloudbound Moogle is a Limited card, through and through, and I doubt it does much besides improve your Sealed deck.

#7. Summon: Choco/Mog

The adorable duo presented in Summon: Choco/Mog provides an exceptional Limited threat that delivers plenty of pressure over several turns. I imagine it excels in a Pauper Cube with some stiff token support.

#6. Mooglesโ€™ Valor

Moogles' Valor splits the difference between a protection spell and a token producer in beautiful fashion. Five mana is pretty dicey for protection since you want them to be cheap, but I can overlook that for this spellโ€™s modality. It might not be my first choice, but I can see it fitting in lots of casual decks and maybe even some Cubes.

#5. Stiltzkin, Moogle Merchant

Stiltzkin, Moogle Merchant is significant as a permanent donation source. Many donation cards are one-off effects, like Harmless Offering, but this one keeps trucking and gives you some card advantage to bootโ€”like passing off Steel Golem and Demonic Pact wasnโ€™t good enough already. This doesnโ€™t really have Commander potential unless you want to build a really bad group hug deck, but certain decks get a huge power boost from this.

#4. Mog, Moogle Warrior

Mog, Moogle Warrior offers a group-hug rummage effect. Everybody has a chance to rummage, but you always come out ahead since you get tokens and/or counters from the deal. Itโ€™s a pretty cute threat, and it looks like the most promising moogle commander if you want to go there.

#3. Summon: Good King Mog XII

Summon: Good King Mog XII is one of the best moogle cards because itโ€™s simply a good card. It brings multiple bodies to the fray and the token generation is pretty sick, even if Iโ€™m more interested in making copies of Rhino tokens or token copies of real creatures made with red or blue cards than the Moogles it comes with. I like this one.

#2. Cait Sith, Fortune Teller

Cait Sith, Fortune Teller doesnโ€™t interact with moogles at large. It just draws an extra card each turn and applies pressure. With a text box reminiscent of Headliner Scarlet, I see this working well in Cube or Commander decks that cast cards from exile.

#1. Delivery Moogle

Delivery Moogleโ€™s the best moogle, hands down. Tutors are just really good, especially when your tutor comes attached to a creatureโ€™s enters ability in the color known for flickering creatures. Searching the library and graveyard gives this an extra layer of redundancy, allowing you to rebuy your precious tool if an opponent had a timely Force of Vigor.

Best Moogle Payoffs

A couple of moogle cards work better with other moogles, which gives us the first payoff.

Flicker effects also look pretty decent. They reset the summons so they donโ€™t die, and they retrigger the moogles with strong enters abilities.

Strionic Resonator

The power of these cards rests within their abilities, so you do a lot with Strionic Resonator and friends to get the most from them.

Moogles look like a great mascot, and I think Wizards did a great job adapting them without throwing them in our faces. Delivery Moogle looks especially promising, and I canโ€™t wait to use it to assemble some EDH combos!
