Chandra's Ignition (Secret Lair) - art by Justyna Dura

Yesterday, Wizards unveiled the full decklist for the Hatsune Miku Secret Lair Commander deck leaked several months ago, around Goblin Stormโ€™s release. This deck has a special ordering structure: Youโ€™ll have a full 24 hours to order the deck, from August 10 at 9 a.m. to 8:59 a.m. on August 11.

The token/lifegain deck, helmed by Trostani, Selesnya's Voice revamped as Miku, is all reprints, 14 of which have new art by Japanese arts to put the spotlight on Miku.

Hereโ€™s a few quick upgrades to make the deck perform better. These cuts shave off do-nothing or overcosted cards, mostly lifegain ones, to shore up two glaring weaknesses: A criminal lack of both card draw and removal.

Exemplar of Light

Suggested Cut: Ajani's Pridemate

Whoever added Ajani's Pridemate needs a stern talking to. Commander does give Pridemate time to scale, but you need more than a simple beatstick in this format. Iโ€™m also not convinced a deck with this curve wants to play this early over a ramp spell. Exemplar of Light is far stronger. You still get the scaling, but on a more effective flying body and, more importantly, with card draw.

Rite of Harmony

Suggested Cut: Congregate

Rite of Harmony enables disgusting turns in token decks with the right setup, which this deck has. Lots of creatures, and the ability to make big bursts of them with cards like Ghalta and Mavern or Storm Herd. Even a smaller turn, where you put two or three creatures into play, is fine. As for Congregate, the last thing I want to spend mana on in any format is straight lifegain.

Caretakerโ€™s Talent

Suggested Cut: Boon Reflection

I probably seem like a lifegain hater with these cuts. What I hate are cards that do little to nothing to impact the board or advance your gameplan. None of the lifegain payoffs warrant Boon Reflection doubling your lifegain; gaining 1 life is as good as 20, with the possible exception of Soul of Eternity. But one card isnโ€™t worth bending over backward with bad cards like this.

Caretaker's Talent does so much more: you get the missing card advantage, a copy of your best token, and, eventually, an anthem to convert your board presence into a win. Itโ€™s a fantastic token support card and so much better than Boon Reflection.

Ezuriโ€™s Predation

Suggested Cut: Invincible Hymn

Remember when I said I didnโ€™t want to pay 4 mana for a card that only gained life? Invincible Hymn gains an amazing amount of life, and I might be underrating what some 60+ life does at a super casual level. But Iโ€™d rather invest that mana into a token-based board wipe. Ezuri's Predation is hardly a competitive card itself, but it impacts the board and creates decent tokens to populate.

Cloudโ€™s Limit Break

Suggested Cut: Growing Ranks

Growing Ranks feels awfully slow in 2026. Sure, there are other slow cards like Phyrexian Processor and Song of the Worldsoul, but they have far higher ceilings compared to one extra token a turn cycle, for 4 mana, without making a token itself. Iโ€™d rather take a flexible removal spell; Cloud's Limit Break scales beautifully in Commander as a three-for-one or board wipe or spot removal as the situation demands.
