Hello, planeswalkers! I hope you have your bags packed because we’re on our way to Transylvania. MTG has created wonderfully detailed worlds, histories, and characters, but it doesn’t hurt sometimes to rely on well-known story material. With all the vampires and zombies of Magic, it’s no wonder that they would have a Dracula-themed cross-over.

MTG didn’t make a direct set based on the characters and themes of the Dracula stories. Instead, they made reskinned cards as Box Topper promotions. Let’s dive into the questions you may have if you haven’t seen these alternative art cards yet. Where can I find them? Can I use them in play? And are they valuable?

Let’s get started!

What Are Dracula Cards?

Dracula cards are alternate art reprints of cards from the Innistrad: Crimson Vow set. The Dracula series cards have new names and art based on the characters and story of Dracula. You can see the original card’s name below the new Dracula-style name, and the text of the Dracula card is the same as the original card.

Which MTG Set Has Dracula Cards?

Dracula cards are Box Toppers from the Innistrad: Crimson Vow set.

How Many Dracula Cards Are There?

There are 18 Dracula cards. Thirteen of them are single-faced cards and the other five are double-faced cards with two different alternate artwork on either side.

Castle Dracula can be found in Buy-a-box promos. You can find these Buy-a-box promos at certain local game stores. Castle Dracula is also be available on MTGArena as the reward for purchasing a large number of packs.

Are Dracula Cards Expensive?

Not at all. Most of the Dracula cards are about 2-3 times more expensive than the original prints of the same cards, but we’re talking about the difference between $0.17 and $0.79. The most expensive Dracula cards I found were Sisters of the Undead and Count Dracula at around $5.

Are Dracula Cards Legal?

Yes, they’re legal. The general rule for alternative or altered art is; the mana value and name of the original card have to be visible, easy to read, and unaltered. And the card needs to be generally recognizable by the majority of players. Since Dracula cards were created and distributed by WotC, all these requirements are met. All that said, if you’re playing in a tournament, it would be wise to check with the head judge before playing any of these cards.

Is It Worth It to Buy Dracula Cards?

That depends on your goal. If you want to collect the alternate art and enjoy seeing the new editions of cards, then yes. If your goal is to win tournaments or make money, then probably not. Collecting special cards and art is fulfilling for many players, but in reality, the Dracula cards won’t make a difference in tournament play or your trading portfolio.

Can You Get Dracula Cards on Magic Arena?

Yes, through a couple of methods, you can get a few of the Dracula cards. If you buy enough Innistrad: Crimson Vow packs in Arena, you’ll be gifted a Castle Dracula. Some of the Dracula cards are also offered as rewards from events. One more way I found is to buy the Secret Lair codes from a secondary market. It’s not as easy as spending a wildcard, but you can get the Dracula cards with some perseverance.

Can You Get Dracula Cards on Magic Online?

No, the Dracula cards didn't make it to Magic Online.

Is Dracula Now Canon in MTG?

Yes, because the Dracula cards are considered to be Universes Within cards. This differs from the Universes Beyond cards to incorporate different intellectual properties into the MTG canon. Since the Dracula cards are versions of real MTG canon cards, they are now introduced as canon themselves.
