Howdy folks! Today we take a look at the Planeswalker Bundle from the MTG Arena Store. To manage your resources and successfully navigate Arena's in-game economy is a huge part of the Free-to-Play (F2P) experience, and we want to maximize the benefits when we do put some cash in.

The Planeswalker Bundle costs almost $50, so is it worth a buy? Iโ€™d say it is, and hereโ€™s why.

What Comes in the Planeswalker Bundle?

MTG Arena store, including planeswalker bundle

You get 6,500 gems, four MTGA Draft tokens, and two cosmetics: a Phelddagrif Avatar, and the Chatterfang sleeve (depicting the characters Questing Phelddagrif and Chatterfang, Squirrel General).

Is the Planeswalker Bundle Worth It?

What Do You Get Out of the Bundle?

With this Bundle you get a lot of value, much more than youโ€™d get buying gems from the Arena Store.

You get 6,500 gems, which is already enough to but plenty of Arena packs from whichever MTG set you want. You also get four Draft tokens. If you usually do well in Arena Drafts, these Draft tokens can become so much more in rewards of gems, cards, and other prizes. Think about it this way rather than pay 1,500 gems a pop: going 3-3 in a Premier Draft will reward you 1,000 gems and two packs, which you can do four times with the tokens.

Breakdown of the Numbers

The Planeswalker Bundle is rated at $49.99 and gives you 6,500 gems upfront. That same $49.99 gets you 9,200 gems at the store regularly.

So, what else do we get to compensate for this 2,700 gem difference (9,200-6,500)?

Well, nothing less than 4 Draft tokens, rated at 1,500 gems each considering the Premier and Traditional Draft entry fees. Youโ€™re also getting an exclusive sleeve and an avatar, which cost 600 and 500 gems, respectively. In short, hereโ€™s what we get:

  • 6,500 gems
  • 4 Draft tokens = 6,000 gems
  • Avatar = 500 gems
  • Sleeve = 600 gems
  • Total = 13,600 gems, versus only 9,200 gems from the regular Arena store offering.

Another way to consider this is that $1 gives you roughly 150 gems in the Arena store. You can get those 13,600 gems by spending $80 on four bundles of 3,400 gems. So the Planeswalkerโ€™s Bundle is indeed a good value.

The only caveat is that a good chunk of this value comes in Draft tokens, which can be even better if youโ€™re a regular drafter or Limited player.

Does This Bundle Help Me Get into Alchemy on Arena?

It does help you get into Alchemy. You can use the gems to buy any type of packs, including of course Alchemy packs, and the Draft tokens are good for any available format. Whenever an Alchemy Draft is available, you can pay the entry fee with the Draft token (they never expire).

If you aim to get into Alchemy and build a new deck, or improve/build upon something you already have, the best way to start is with Draftsimโ€™s Arena Tutor. Itโ€™s totally free, and hereโ€™s a look at it in action:

Arena Tutor meta deck browser page, filtered to alchemy

Hereโ€™s Arena Tutor showing my account and the meta decks. Iโ€™ve selected Alchemy by win rate just below the color pips under Meta Deck Browser. Arena Tutor shows you the best decks by win rate, and by tracks your collection to also tell you how many wildcards you can use to upgrade your starter decks or brew a deck from scratch. You can also look at other formats like Standard, Pioneer, or Historic, and you can also see what good decks youโ€™re more likely to complete against too.

So you have some wildcards left and a bunch of gems. These gems can be converted into packs, netting more cards and wildcards. Thatโ€™s what we need to build or complete a deck, so Arena Tutor will show you which decks you should build or which meta decks youโ€™re closer to completing. Thatโ€™s a wise and focused way to spend your resources.

How Long Will the Planeswalker Bundle be Available?

The Planeswalker Bundle goes away after you purchase it. Otherwise, it is available in the bundles section indefinitely.

Can You Buy the Planeswalker Bundle Multiple Times?

Planeswalker bundle is a one-time purchase in the MTG Arena store

You can only buy the Planeswalker Bundle one time, as shown in the picture. MTG Arenaโ€™s best bundles are one-time-only, and theyโ€™re usually a really good value.

Should You Buy the Planeswalker Bundle?

If you spend cash on Arena and value the draft tokens, you will get a lot of value out of this bundle. Itโ€™s a huge recommendation if you value the Draft tokens and I still recommend it if you barely scrape by on drafts.

Wrap Up

The Planeswalker bundle is a huge one-time deal, and you should definitely get it if you want to improve at Limited. Even if youโ€™re not that into Limited, the bundle also offers a good value. Itโ€™s almost $50, but I donโ€™t think you could spend it in a better way on MTG Arena, and you couldn't buy certain real-world bundles with that $50.

Do you plan to get the Planeswalker Bundle? Let me know in the comments or on the Draftsim Discord! And next time you hop into the Arena queues, be sure to have Arena Tutor installed and running. Itโ€™ll give you tips on which decks to build, suggest Draft picks, and much more!
