Terror of the Peaks proxy
Magic: The Gathering has always inspired creativity and innovation among its players, and one of the most exciting expressions of this is through fun and unique proxies. These custom cards allow fans to bring their favorite characters from movies, TV series, and even other games into the world of MTG, often with stunning and imaginative artwork.
Today, I explore some of the most fun and inventive MTG proxies out there. From beloved pop culture icons to whimsical reimaginings of classic cards, these proxies showcase the boundless creativity of the Magic community.
Are you excited to see what these imaginative cards look like? Let’s dive right into it!
What Are Funny Proxies?

Lady of Laughter | Illustration by Kai Carpenter
Since fun is up to interpretation, “funny proxies” can range from cute cartoon versions of MTG cards to memes that humorously reinterpret the text on the original cardboard, allowing you to truly make the card your own.
While many proxies are extensions of the original art or fantastic, upgraded versions of the card, the ones that truly stand out are those that bring a smile to your face. These are the ones that have earned their place on this list.
Also, a curious fact about these proxies is that most of what I found during my research was NSFW for some reason. It goes without saying that those won’t make it on this list, but feel free to search for them on your own on places like eBay or Etsy.
You can't directly purchase all these proxies, but if you find one to your liking, remember that there are always sites like MTG Proxy, Printing Proxies, or The Proxy Forge where you can print them if they aren’t for sale already. MTG Proxy in particular has a very easy custom image tool on their front page that makes this process as streamlined as it can be.
#25. Krispy Kreme Sol Ring

I can no longer get a hot and fresh Sol Ring from a Krispy Kreme near my home, but the craving is real. Down to the price, thank you @The_Prince_LGCY, this card deserves a chef's kiss.
In an ideal world, you make the backside a food token.
#24. King Arthur of the Britons / Sidar Jabari of Zhalfir

I have a deep appreciation for Monty Python and the Holy Grail because I discovered it and Magic around the same time. At that stage in life, this humor was the best, and bringing it to Magic: the Gathering is just too good. Of course, there was a Monty Python Secret Lair, but this sort of King Arthur proxy is less expensive.
#23. Gingerbrute

Cookie monster only wishes it had haste. Catch @the_fisherr if you can.
#22. Basic Pokémon Energies as Lands

You're limited to one per turn, a necessary resource to use your cards, and no deckbuilding restrictions. Basic lands and basic energies. I see little difference between them. SolvirAurelius made these ready for MPC Autofill, and they're usually good for a few ear-to-ear grins for those in the know.
Just to clarify, Wastes is a basic land with no subtype.
Some even call these Theros Beyond Death lands the Pokémon lands.
#21. Lightning Crocs

While Crocs aren’t the best way to run into battle in the aggressive world of Magic: The Gathering, that's the exact reason this card from LiquidLuckGaming on Etsy is funny, as you can now imagine your favorite commander, like The Gitrog Monster, trying to fit into these.
#20. Pokémon Typal Cards

Let’s face it: Pokémon and Slivers share some similarities. Well, not exactly, but I find it funny that some of these proxies from Elkoytcg on Etsy, like the Mew one (The First Sliver), are on-point references between Pokémon and what the MTG card actually does.
#19. Batman Counter

Memes are great things to put onto your proxies, and this one is spot on since Counterspell is well known for shutting down anything your opponent wants to resolve. MTG Proxy makes it very easy to upload an image like this to create your own custom proxies.
#18. Deflecting Swat

As it happens, there are many ways to use the same art on a different card, and the meme of Batman slapping Robin is proof of this.
#17. Baby Yoda

More cute than “fun,” I like how Baby Yoda looks as the Child of Alara, a very famous 5-color commander.
#16. Silence

There’s nothing more hilarious than having your mouth shut down by one of the cutest characters ever created, as you usually won’t expect it to say such things. This proxy comes courtesy of tripleproducts on eBay.
#15. All Is Inevitable

Memorable movie events are also great to put onto your cards, and since everything was turned into dust when Thanos used the Infinity Gauntlet, All Is Dust is a great card to have it on.
#14. Elmo, The Infinite Gyre

If you pronounce “Ulamog” very fast, it's almost as if you were pronouncing “Elmo.” As such, this is another example of a card that can be turned into one of the most popular internet memes.
#13. King Kogla

Ikoria is well-known for showcasing many alternate arts for Godzilla on the dinosaurs in that set. But they didn't have the licensing to do one for Kogla, the Titan Ape showcasing King Kong. I like how the artwork is detailed and realistic on this proxy, making it a perfect fit as both a commander and a card you can run in your decks.
#12. The Pokémon God

This one might need a bit of context. Bidoof is humorously referred to as the “Pokémon God” largely due to internet memes and fan culture, but it’s ironically one of the worst base Pokémon out there. With that in mind, which Magic card could represent this mighty powerhouse that may even cause you to rage-quit the game when it resolves? Bidoof, there it is.
#11. Power Ranger Class

While this class enchantment could have also been a Chuck Norris card (Texas Ranger…), I wasn’t able to find a proxy of Ranger Class featuring it. Instead, I got one with the Green Power Ranger on it for all the fans.
#10. Pilot Token

Okay, I might be a bit of a nerd with the crazy amount of Power Rangers proxies I’ve shown so far, but you know this token featuring the White Ranger is going to be a fan favorite. His iconic White Saber and fierce pose bring nostalgia and excitement to the game.
#9. Terror of the Kitties

Terror of the Peaks was one of the best red cards released from Core Set 2021, and it's a card that was reprinted in Outlaws of Thunder Junction. Imagine your opponents' fear when they see that you replaced the art of this mighty dragon with an adorable kitty. Priceless.
#8. Rowan, Scion of War

For the RPG gamers out there, I have a piece of art that you might treasure. From the Fire Emblem franchise, Edelgard the Flame Emperor replaces the original art on Rowan, Scion of War. It depicts her in her imposing armor with her crimson cape flowing, bringing a regal and commanding presence to the card.
#7. Damn

Well, Damn is a famous YouTube short clip, and there happens to be a card with the same name in the Magic: The Gathering world. Got an idea similar to this? Try using MTG Proxy‘s custom image too to create you own proxies.
#6. Force of “NO”

Looking for more counters? Well, Bugs Bunny's got you covered with his famous “NO” printed on a card. While it can realistically be any card, Force of Negation is a decent fit.
#5. Power Rangers Theme

Most of these are based on the Gearhulk cycle, which first appeared in Kaladesh and was later printed many times, including in Commander sets.
Since there's one artifact per color, they fit perfectly with the number of Zords each Power Ranger had. Even the mighty Ornithopter is represented here, and the Megazord proxy is hilarious since Mechtitan is an excellent card to describe it. You'll want to follow @Pandahboymtg on X/Twitter for more proxies like this.
#4. Hinata, The Hidden-Leaf Ninja

For anime lovers, Hinata is one of the most recognized characters from the Naruto franchise. As it turns out, it shares its name with the MTG card Hinata, Dawn-Crowned. Since this is a very popular character, you can choose whichever Hinata picture you like and have it printed on your proxy, so you may see it in many different shapes across the internet. This proxy comes from MoonBlissed on Etsy.
#3. The Chainsaw Massacre

The Meathook Massacre shares most of the words from the title of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Technically, this proxy from MoonBlissed on Etsy isn't super funny, but it's a clever use of the card’s name to relate it to the popular horror film.
#2. Meme Brainstorm

I laughed at this Brainstorm proxy since the premise is actually true. It's a clever way to protect your hand, and it's well represented in this very popular meme.
#1. Force of Will… Smith

This card from PowerNineProxy on Etsy is hilarious, and you can’t help but to laugh as soon as you see it. For those who live under a rock, in March 2022 at the Oscars Awards Ceremony, actor Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock. As it turns out, Rock’s jokes about Smith’s wife weren’t well received, and he got a taste of the Force of Will.
Wrap Up

While official crossovers and Secret Lairs often steal the spotlight, there's something uniquely exciting about the world of MTG proxies, especially the hilarious ones. These custom cards allow players to inject their decks with personal flair and favorite characters, breaking free from the constraints of established Magic sets and themes. We highly recommend you check out MTG Proxy/Printing Proxies and The Proxy Forge if you plan on making proxies of your own.
