Magic’s yearly charity effort with Extra Life is back for 2025, and this time it’s literally squishy: Secret Lair x Play-Doh: “Squishful Thinking.” Four MTG staples get new, hand-sculpted Play-Doh art, with half the purchase price supporting Seattle Children’s via Extra Life.

This Secret Lair drop will be printed to demand and will be available Sept 29–Nov 9 at Secret Lair; you will also be able to get it from the MagicCon: Atlanta merch booth from September 26–28.

“Donations to Extra Life go directly to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, which treat thousands of children every year,” says WotC's article about this year's Extra Life Secret Lair. “Fifty percent (50%) of this purchase price supports Extra Life and the kids and families at Seattle Children's Hospital.”

And if you only play online, there will also be two cosmetic bundles on MTG Arena which also support Extra Life!

What is the “Squishful Thinking” Secret Lair about?

Wizards commissioned Play-Doh sculptures and turned them into four MTG cards for a charity drop. 50% of the purchase price goes to the Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Play-Doh is a non-toxic modeling clay for kids, and hospitals often request it for therapeutic play. Play-Doh was first sold in the 1950s, and is now owned by Hasbro (who also owns WotC), so now we get plastiline polyraptors such as this!

What is Extra Life?

Extra Life is a fundraising program, organized by the gaming community, for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. People stream, play, and donate to support their local children’s hospitals. Since 2008, the program has raised more than $132M.

Wizards has partnered with Extra Life since 2013, and since 2020 there's been a yearly Secret Lair to support Extra Life.

This year's “Squishful Thinking” would be the sixth Extra Life Secret Lair in a row

The Four “Squishful Thinking” Cards

The Squishful Thinking Secret Lair brings four cards, and WotC has been careful to include valuable reprints: Even low-balling the cheapest existing version of each card, this SL gets you about $40-$50 in value, while costing $39.99 for the non-foil cards.

Greensleeves, Maro-Sorcerer

Greensleeves, Maro-Sorcerer doesn't see much competitive play, but it's popular in the 99 and not the worst mono-green commander. And it has very few prints, all hovering around $15.

By the way: “MaRo” is the nickname of Mark Rosewater, Magic's Head Designer, who also runs an extremely prolific MTG blog. That's why Greensleeves, Maro-Sorcerer has protection from planeswalkers (players) and Wizards (of the Coast).

Polyraptor

Polyraptor is a famous dinosaur from Rivals of Ixalan, known for goofy infinite token loops. Like Greensleeves, Maro-Sorcerer, its existing versions are never cheaper than $15, and its previous Secret Lair printings go for around $30.

Academy Manufactor

Academy Manufactor is the competitive card of the bunch, with a lot of cEDH punch! A Commander staple since Modern Horizons 2, Academy Manufactor is a great artifact creature and an excellent artifact token generator. It has even shown fringe Modern play in Food strategies.

It has multiple reprints, but none of them fall under $5.

Wurmcoil Engine

Wurmcoil Engine is another excellent colorless creature that in this case sees top-tier play in… Vintage!

This Wurm has been reprinted a lot but, like Academy Manufactor, it's in such high demand that no versions is cheaper than $5-$7.

MTG Arena Also Has an Extra Life

Two new bundles will be available in the MTG Arena Store from October 28 to November 20 – and all proceeds (minus transaction fees) will be donated to Extra Life benefiting Seattle Children's Hospital.

One bundle, costing 3,000 gems, brings borderless card styles for each card in the Squishful Thinking drop (Greensleeves, Maro-Sorcerer and Academy Manufactor will be added to Arena). And the second bundle, for 600 gems, will feature a sleeve with everybody's best buddy, Ajani:
