Ancient Bronze Dragon - Illustration by Johan Grenier

Just two days after conducting a rather questionable experiment in tiered pricing, Magic's Secret Lair has gone back to basics and announced a massive Super Drop: A whopping seven drops, themed around Dungeon & Dragons characters and locations.

According to WotC's official article, the Roll for Initiative Superdrop arrives February 9, 2026, at 9 a.m. PT. No curious shenanigans when it comes to pricing:  Non-foil drops cost $29.99 USD (plus shipping), and foil drops cost $39.99 USD. There will be a pre-queue, which opens at 8 a.m. PT, 1 hour before the sale goes live (at 9 a.m.).

For once, this Super Drop looks like an amazing selection. There are no new cards, but the majority of reprints are either very popular cards, or cards that haven't been reprinted in a long time.

Shadowheart's Devotion โ€“ Reprint Value: About $22

A big green beater in an otherwise mono-black drop may look as a weird choice at first, but it kinda makes sense with the source material. Ancient Bronze Dragon is indeed the big ticket here, currently costing about $16 for the cheapest version.

Then we have a couple of $3โ€“$4 cards. Beseech the Queen is a cEDH staple, often seen in Rowan, Scion of War decks. And Black Market is still is one of the best black enchantments in Magic, and is fairly popular in casual commander.

Victimize costs less than fifty cents given it has tons of reprints, but this is one of the most popular reanimation spells in casual Commander.

The drop's main character, Shadowheart, Dark Justiciar, may be the runt of the litter in this case: Originally from Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate, Shadowheart is a mediocre commander when partnered with a background, is not too popular in the 99.

Gale's Ambition โ€“ Reprint Value: About $9

The blue Wizard got a bit of a worse deal compared with the human elf cleric.

Personal Tutor is the priciest card of this drop when you look at the cheapest versions, costing about $5, It's pretty much โ€œWe have Mystical Tutor at home,โ€ and not overly popular in casual Commander, although it's an excellent sorcery tutor with competitive punch in both Legacy and cEDH.

Brainstorm and Arcane Denial are multi-format powerhouses, with Brainstorm being hands-down one of the best blue cards in all of Magicโ€ฆBut with tons of reprints, you can get the cheapest versions for about $1โ€“$2.

The same is true for Archmage's Charm: It's indeed among the best charms in Magic, but you can get the original Modern Horizons printing for about $1.50.

Gale, Waterdeep Prodigy shares the same fate as Shadowheart, Dark Justiciar: For all their main character energy, they are arguably least valuable cards in their drops, costing mere cents.

Black Lights & Dark Dungeons โ€“ Reprint Value: About $35

Black Lights & Dark Dungeons, illustrated by Josh Freydkis, is one of the drops where the reprint value may be above SLD price.

The money card here is Displacer Kitten, which goes for around $22 for the cheapest versions from Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate. One of the most inherently broken blink cards, Displacer Kitten is a multi-format powerhouse.

But, besides the expensive kitten, a couple of other cards in this drop cost a pretty penny. Seasoned Dungeoneer, never reprinted until now, is not too popular in multiplayer Commander but sees quite a bit of Duel Commander play, and currently costs about $9. And Tortured Existence, at about $4, is a very good black enchantment for decks that want to put creatures in their graveyard.

Sefris of the Hidden Ways, like Gale or Shadowheart, costs just a few centsโ€ฆ but unlike the other two, Sefris is a very popular Esper commander, and one of the best wizard commanders overall.

Shadows Over Baldur's Gate โ€“ Reprint Value: $48

This is the drop that everybody is looking at as far as reprint value goes.

And not just value: All four cards do see a lot of play together, either with Prosper, Tome-Bound in the command zone or when they are all in the 99.

Prosper, Tome-Bound, currently sitting at around $15 for its original Forgotten Realms printing, is one of the best ramp commanders and extremely popular in casual pods.

cEDH staple Grim Hireling, the priciest card in this drop, is one of the best treasure cards in the game and also costs about $15.

Wild-Magic Sorcerer (who used to be just a shaman orc, but it's been errata'd to also have the sorcerer creature type) sees lots of play in Prosper decks and costs about $10.

And Xorn, the cheapest card in this drop, goes for about $8. It's not exactly a token doubler, but is still a staple in Magda, Brazen Outlaw cEDH decks, and almost auto-include when Prosper, Tome-Bound is in the command zone.

Whispers in Candlekeep โ€“ Reprint Value: About $30

Source: Post on X

Illustrated by Diego Andrade, Whispers in Candlekeep is another of the priciest Lairs in the Roll for Initiative super drop.

Klauth, Unrivaled Ancient, at around $15, is among the best Gruul cards and is quite popular in casual Commander. Dragonborn Champion, at $10, is also fairly popular. And Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm may cost just $5, but is among the Top 20 most popular commanders.

The only card costing less than $1 in this drop is Counterspellโ€ฆ but you really can't find a staplier staple than this blue card!

Strahd's Descent โ€“ Reprint Value: About $28

Bloodletter of Aclazotz does a lot of heavy lifting in this dropโ€ฆ

โ€ฆ and, costing about $27, is pretty much all the reprint value in the Strahd's Descent drop.

The rest are not bad cards, though: The Devil Strahd (cosplaying as Strefan, Maurer Progenitor) is a solid Vampire commander, Castle Ravenloft (as Voldaren Estate) is often found in Strefan EDH decks, and End the Festivities sees a lot of competitive play in Pauper. But, being fairly recent cards, they all cost $1 or less.

Lands of the Forgotten Realms

Source: Reddit

Finally, we have the Forgotten Realms lands. On the one hand, paying thirty bucks for a bunch of basics isโ€ฆ pricey. On the other hand, these are all gorgeous (in my subjective opinion, of course).

WotC still refuses to sell these in playsets, but in this case you get two of each kind!
