Everything in the Prismari Artistry Commander deck: all 100 cards with current prices, what the deck is worth against the sealed price, the 12 new cards, and whether it is worth buying.
At the beginning of combat on your turn, if you've cast an instant or sorcery spell this turn, create an X/X blue and red Elemental creature token with flying and haste, where X is the greatest mana value among instant and sorcery spells you've cast this turn.
Sensing some repetition here, because I just don’t vibe with the theme of this deck. Izzet spellslinging? That’s what you’ve got? Yes, there are some subthemes here with tokens and 5-MV spells, but at the end of the day this is just the billionth blue-red spells deck. I also got the sense that a lot of this deck was just a rehash of the Prismari deck from Commander 2021, but I might be imagining that.
Once again, the reprint value is great, so that’s a point in this deck’s favor. Plus, there are some inspired new card designs for spellslingers of all sorts. Look, spellslinger is done to death, but it’s also wildly popular, so I can’t be too dismissive. I’ll pass on Prismari Artistry, but I can recommend it for anyone trying to cast some big instants or sorceries.
It’s Izzet spells, folks. You know the drill. Technically it’s “Prismari big spells”, but Prismari Artistry is just a typical Izzet deck masquerading under a different name. A rose is a rose is a rose. The theme for Prismari Artistry really is as simple as just casting instants and sorceries, though there’s a subtheme of token creation, and it plays into the opus mechanic of SOS by offering greater rewards for spells with mana value 5 or greater.
Rootha, Mastering the Moment is sort of like a once-per-turn Young Pyromancer, except it can make a large hasty flying token if you’ve cast a high mana value spell before combat. That means your delve spells like Dig Through Time and Treasure Cruise pull a lot of weight here. Totally solid.
The back-up commander asks the question: Why Muddle the Mixture when you can instead Muddle, the Ever-Changing? Okay not-Lutri, you’ve got my attention. Adding myriad to a cost reduction creature or something with a good saboteur effect sounds like a good time to me. Rootha feels like the choice if you want a straightforward game plan, though Muddle seems like a fun alternative.
Right off the bat, note that this is a super solid choice for anyone that wants to stretch into the Izzet space in EDH. But there are two issues with the precon. The first is that you need more high mana value spells that you can cast more cheaply, to maximize the triggers you can get from Rooth or your other payoffs. And second, you need a few more payoffs! Simple enough!
