We know half of 2027โs set lineup thanks to a preview panel from MagicCon Amsterdam in July, and Mark Rosewater confirmed yesterday on Tumblr that one of the upcoming Magic sets will be announced tonight at a panel in New York Comic Con:

Players have speculated that the panel would include a Universes Beyond set announcement since the panelโwhich starts at 7:45pmโwas announced in September, but this is the first official confirmation from Wizards that a new set will be announced.
A Marvel Set Is Most Likely

There hasnโt been a whiff of what the set announced will be. Assuming itโs a Universes Beyond set makes the most senseโall the in-universe sets for 2027 have been announced, and Wizards promised information about the UB sets around events more relevant to their properties. Also, the panel description literally uses the words โuniverseโ and โbeyond.โ
Another Marvel set makes sense given the setting of the panel. Itโs Comic Con, and much Marvel stuff (including the Marvel Magic sets thus far) are set in New York. With no confirmation makes a declarative statement impossible, but Iโm about 95% certain itโll be Marvel.
X-Men Versus Marvel Magic

As far what slice of the Marvel pie comes to Magic, there are two prominent possibilities: the X-Men or the magic/cosmic side of the Marvel universe depicted with characters like Doctor Strange and Thor.
While Marvel Super Heroes covered a wide swath of heroes and villains from Marvel, there was a noticable lack of X-Men. Sure, marque characters like Storm and Wolverine got cards, but no Professor X, no Magneto, etc. This feels similar to Spider-Manโs role: A couple cards, but nothing major since the web-slinger got his own set. Many players, including myself, have speculated that this indicates a dedicated X-Men set ala Marvelโs Spider-Man. MSH even included random mutant payoffs like Wolverine, Claws Out.
The only wrinkle comes from the Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks; in Hasbroโs Q2 earnings call, Cocks mentioned that the upcoming yearโs UB sets would be โmore fantasy-adjacent,โ and Iโve always found the X-Men more science-fiction than fantasy. Of course, this doesnโt mean that every UB set needs to be fantasy or that the big shots at Wizards agree with my categorization of the X-Men. But it leaves the door open to the more arcane side of Marvel, with characters like The Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange, and Magik being central to whatever Wizards dreams up. Nobody can say for certain until the panel, so I guess weโll have to wait a few hours to find out.
