The same way Collector boosters offer a high-end alternative to Play boosters, MTG has been producing the occasional premium bundle for some recent sets, a pricier alternative to the normal set bundles but with more booster packs, more throw-ins, and a way cooler box.

For Secrets of Strixhaven, that preemo alternative is the Codex Bundle, which comes off the heels of the rock solid, super thematic Pizza Bundle from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Does it deliver? Is it worth a triple-digit price tag? Strixhaven wonโ€™t have any secrets left once Iโ€™ve picked this box apart.

What Is the Secrets of Strixhaven Codex Bundle?

The Codex Bundle is the more expensive of two bundle products associated with Secrets of Strixhaven. Itโ€™s a more thematic product with better booster packs than the typical bundle, though it comes at a higher cost.

The main distinction from a typical bundle is that it includes a couple Collector booster packs, a special spindown d20, and a few promos that you canโ€™t get anywhere else.

What Comes in an SOS Codex Bundle?

Secrets of Strixhaven Codex Bundle

The Secrets of Strixhaven Codex Bundle includes the following:

  • 2 SOS Collector boosters
  • 6 SOS Play boosters
  • 20 Traditional foil lands
  • 1 Unique spindown d20
  • 1 Codex Booster, including 2 out of a possible 6 foil promos
  • One really, really cool box

How Much Does a Codex Bundle Cost?

The Codex Bundle has an MSRP of $89.99, though prices will vary depending on where you buy it.

At the time of writing, well before the release of the set, the market price listed on TCGplayer is $164. You can also find it on Walmart.com for $99.77.

When Does the SOS Codex Bundle Release?

The Codex Bundle will be made available when Secrets of Strixhaven releases on April 24, 2026. You can preorder a bundle, but it typically wonโ€™t ship until that release date. Most game stores are allowed to sell new product for a set during prerelease weekends, so you may be able to snag one of these from your local game store around April 17th, the weekend of SOS prereleases.

How Many Promos Come in a Codex Booster?

Youโ€™re guaranteed to open two of the six promos listed above in a Codex Booster. Theyโ€™ll always be foil.

Does the Codex Bundle Include Full-Art Lands?

The Codex Bundle includes 20 traditional foil lands, but it doesnโ€™t include full-art lands by default. Itโ€™s still possible to open full-art lands in the boosters within the bundle, but they arenโ€™t guaranteed.

SOS Codex Bundle vs. Normal SOS Bundle

Secrets of Strixhaven Bundle

A normal Secrets of Strixhaven bundle includes the following contents:

  • 9 Play boosters
  • 10 Traditional foil lands
  • 1 Traditional foil Wisdom of Ages promo
  • 1 Unique oversized spindown d20

The Codex Bundle comes with one less Play booster, but two Collector boosters. It also includes twice as many foil lands, as well as twice the number of promos, though you notably canโ€™t get the Wisdom of Ages promo in a Codex Bundle. The d20s for each product are different, as well.

The regular bundle has an MSRP of $57.99, as opposed to the MSRP of $89.99 for a Codex Bundle.

Is a Secrets of Strixhaven Codex Bundle Worth It?

Letโ€™s talk dollar signs. Bearing in mind that the Codex Bundle should cost roughly $90, hereโ€™s the breakdown of the bundleโ€™s value by contents:

  • 2 SOS Collector boosters: $27 x 2 = $54
  • 6 SOS Play boosters: $5.50 x 6 = $33
  • 20 Traditional foil lands: Likely worthless, though you could probably add $2-3 here.
  • 1 Unique spindown d20: These special oversized dice usually have a market value of $10-15, depending on the set.
  • 1 Codex Booster, including 2 out of a possible 6 foil promos: Hard to say where these will settle. The individual cards arenโ€™t worth much, but the promo versions could easily be worth something. Iโ€™ll ballpark this at $10 for any combination of two promos, though that may be too low.
  • The Codex Bundle box: I wouldnโ€™t normally mention the container for a bundle, but this is so cool and unique that I could totally see people reselling for $5-10.

The booster packs alone add up to $87, which is basically the MSRP of the product right there. That by itself is likely close enough to worth it if you can get one of these at or around the intended price.

The add-ons like the d20 and the box probably add a good $10 worth of value, and the promos likely add another $10, if not more. Your total estimated value is closer to $110, possibly more if the promos land somewhere higher than Iโ€™m giving them credit for.

The verdict is an easy yes: The Codex Bundle is worth it, with the caveat that you find it at or near the intended MSRP of $90. Iโ€™d still be willing to spend something like $100-$110 for this, though anything above that is decidedly not worth it, and youโ€™d be better off buying the contents individually at that point.

Secretโ€™s out, Strixhaven. Your move.

Iโ€™ve enjoyed these premium bundles for sets like TMNT and Aetherdrift, and the Codex Bundle feels like a welcome addition to the line-up. The contents arenโ€™t so over-the-top that you feel obligated to get one, but they offer just enough to entice people looking to spend a little bit extra on the latest MTG set.
