In 2023, WotC announced Play boosters, a product that melded Draft boosters and Set boosters into one product. Play boosters debuted in 2024 with Murders at Karlov Manor with the promise of simplifying the many Magic products that WotC offered.
Then they whipped out two brand-new boosters on us right in the middle of the year!
Assassin’s Creed brought Beyond boosters, while Bloomburrow heralds Value boosters.
Which of these new booster products reigns supreme? Let’s find out!
The Difference Between Value and Beyond Boosters

Beyond boosters are 7-card booster packs that contain cards from associated Universes Beyond Magic sets, while Value boosters are 7-card boosters with cards from recent Standard releases.
Though both packs have seven cards, they have very different contents. Value boosters focus on commons and uncommons without a guaranteed rare, while Beyond boosters are uncommon-heavy with at least one rare and Booster Fun variants.
Value Booster Contents
Value boosters contain seven cards. These details came from WotC's official announcement of Bloomburrow‘s Value boosters:
- Three commons
- Two uncommons
- One wildcard of any rarity
- One land, traditional foil, or Special Guest card.
How Many Cards Are in a Value Booster?
Value boosters contain seven cards, which are mostly commons and uncommons. They aren’t guaranteed to contain rares to keep the cost low.
Beyond Booster Contents

Beyond boosters also contain seven cards. This information comes from the Assassin’s Creed Beyond boosters:
- One basic land or borderless scene card
- Three uncommons
- One rare or mythic
- One traditional foil that's uncommon, rare, or mythic
- One showcase uncommon, rare, or mythic, which can be a traditional foil
How Many Cards Are in A Beyond Booster?
Beyond boosters contain seven cards. They have a guaranteed rare and a guaranteed Booster Fun card to make opening them even more exciting!
Which Is Better? Value Boosters or Beyond Boosters?
If you’re looking for a really cheap booster pack to crack for some short-term satisfaction, I’d recommend the Value booster. Beyond boosters are a great way to start collecting Universes Beyond cards without investing in a Commander precon or Collector booster.
In terms of monetary value, Beyond boosters are almost certain to get you more bang for your buck, if only because they definitely contain rare cards, which are almost always the most valuable cards in a given set.
Best Value Boosters
The first Value boosters are from Bloomburrow, there aren't any other available! They're not available anywhere online just yet, and we don't know the exact price. When that new info is out, we'll be sure to update this section.
Best Beyond Boosters
Assassin’s Creed
Assassin’s Creed might be the only set with Beyond boosters, but it puts a pretty good foot forward. The memory corridor showcase cards are incredibly striking, and valuable to boot. In addition to the new ACR cards, you can pull Commander staples that have been reskinned with Assassin’s Creed flavor, with a few notable pulls including Temporal Trespass, Sword of Feast and Famine, and the Horizon Canopy cantrip lands.

Wrap Up

I honestly think these are pretty cool boosters. If WotC had announced Beyond boosters with Doctor Who, I’d have bought several. Offering players a means of playing with the new cards without purchasing expensive Collector boosters and price-boosted precons seems great; likewise, I think the accessibility of Value boosters might invite more players to the game.
