Settle Beyond Reality | Illustration by Anthony Palumbo
Magic: The Gathering throws surprise curveballs for its products each year. Every once and a while you must pull yourself away from play boosters in a draft. There’s another type of booster that came out on July 5: Beyond Boosters!
Beyond Boosters take you on a journey through a universe outside Magic: the Gathering’s storyline, call it a plane that Magic's characters can't interact with and do not realize exists. Let’s discover the overall purpose of Magic’s Beyond Booster.
What Are Beyond Boosters in MTG?

Beyond Boosters are affiliated with Universes Beyond releases. There are new cards and notable reprints that tell a fun and diverse story about one of the universes Magics explores.
Rather than purchase a larger product of a Universes Beyond set, a Beyond Booster allows for players to get a taste of that universe and the cards from it in a medium-sized, starting-hand-size pack.
What Comes in a Beyond Booster?

A Beyond Booster features new cards as well as reprints. The details are from Assassin's Creed.
The Assassin's Creed Beyond Booster contents are:
- 1 Basic land (or non-foil borderless scene card)
- 3 Uncommons
- 1 Rare or mythic rare
- 1 Traditional foil uncommon, rare, or mythic rare
- 1 Showcase uncommon, rare, or mythic rare (can also be traditional foil)
They contain Booster Fun and an ode to some of the oldest sets of Magic that had less than 10-card packs. Other universes explored before Assassin's Creed include the likes of Fortnite, The Lord of the Rings, and Fallout.
- EXPLORE WITH 7-CARD BEYOND BOOSTERS—Open 7-card packs full of classic characters, items, and moments from your favorite Assassin’s Creed games with a box of 24 Beyond Boosters
- LEAP INTO HISTORY—Assassin’s Creed emerges from the shadows to join Magic: The Gathering. Freerun through ancient locales with your favorite Assassins, equip deadly weapons, and ensure your targets are history
- TAKE A LEAP OF FAITH—Bring the beloved video game series to your tabletop with new art and thematic game mechanics sure to delight Assassin’s Creed and Magic fans alike
- TRACK DOWN ELUSIVE RELICS—In each pack you’ll find 1–4 cards of rarity Rare or higher, at least 1 shining Traditional Foil card, and at least 1 card with full, Borderless art—no scouring the streets required for these collectibles
- FOIL and BORDERLESS CARD IN EVERY PACK—Every Beyond Booster includes at least 1 shining Traditional Foil card and 1 Borderless Card featuring gorgeous alt-art that extends all the way to the edges of the card
When Did Beyond Boosters Release?
Beyond Boosters arrived on July 5, 2024, with Assassin's Creed, and do not affect rotation in Alchemy or Standard.
What Formats Are Beyond Boosters Legal In?

Beyond Boosters contain Assassin’s Creed cards which are legal in the Modern format along with Commander. Assassin’s Creed cards are legal in other eternal formats such as Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker. Assassin’s Creed cards are not draftable or playable in Standard.
Beyond Boosters vs. Play Boosters
Play boosters are different from Beyond Boosters in a few ways. They combine the purpose of Draft boosters and Set boosters. Players can crack play boosters knowing that they have the potential to pull a high-value, highly sought-after card while also being able to draft with them at their LGS or in a home play setting.
Play boosters of Bloomburrow and Beyond Boosters are both readily available by the box, 36 boosters for the Bloomburrow play booster box, and 24 in the Assassin's Creed Booster box. Play boosters contain 14 playable cards, including between 1-4 rares or mythics, at least one foil, and a chance to open a card from The List.
Beyond Boosters are not draftable like play boosters. They’re more for cracking packs so you can enjoy seven cards from a universe that you explore as you experience the pack-opening.
- TINY TAILS, BIG ADVENTURE—Put your best paw forward and enter the world of Bloomburrow; fight beside mice, frogs, bats, birds, lizards, squirrels, and other critters as you restore the balance of peace in the Valley and prove that bravery comes in all sizes!
- FUN TO OPEN. FUN TO PLAY—Get the best of Draft and Set Boosters, combined into one! Play Boosters are great for Limited play and fun to open, with a possibility of Art cards, Showcase cards, additional Rares, and a foil card in every pack
- BEST BOOSTER FOR PLAYING WITH FRIENDS—Specially balanced for Limited play, grab 6 Play Boosters to build a deck and battle your friends in Sealed games, or grab 3 packs and pass them around to build decks in a Booster Draft
- MAY CONTAIN MULTIPLE RARES—Each Play Booster contains 1–4 cards of rarity Rare or higher, including the possibility of a Borderless Mythic Rare card from Magic’s history
- SHINING FOIL IN EVERY PACK—Every booster also includes at least 1 shining Traditional Foil card of any rarity; in 20% of packs you’ll also find a Traditional Foil Land card
Beyond Boosters vs. Collector Boosters
Collector boosters like those from Duskmourn: House of Horror contain the highest value cards that Magic collectors want the most, hence their name. There are more rares, alternate art cards, and foil cards from Magic’s universe to pull from a collector booster. Every Standard release set since Throne of Eldraine has collector boosters, and there’s no indication they will go away any time soon.
Beyond Boosters are mainly for collecting, especially for fans of a specific universe. However, they are not as high-value as what’s contained in a collector booster. With the no-commons make-up of a Beyond Booster and a box of 24 packs for a total of 168 cards, they are a bit less expensive than play or set boosters. Overall, there are actually a ton of differences between Beyond and Collector packs.
The Beyond Booster gives you a chance at four rares or mythics with one guaranteed foil and one token/art card, whereas the Collector booster starts at 5 rares.
- FIGHT TO SURVIVE IN A HOUSE OF NIGHTMARES—Dare to enter Duskmourn, a plane-enveloping House that sets the scene for your opponent’s greatest fears to come to life
- FRIGHTENINGLY GOOD FINDS—Collector Boosters are a shortcut to the coolest cards in a set, with packs full of Rare cards, shiny foil cards, and special alt-art, alt-frame cards
- HORRIFY YOUR FRIENDS IN STYLE—Collect more hard-to-find Duskmourn: House of Horror cards with 5 cards of rarity Rare or higher and a total of 5 alt-border cards in every Collector Booster
- COLLECTOR BOOSTER-EXCLUSIVE TREATMENTS—Collector Boosters are the only place you can find certain coveted card styles, including the possibility of extended-art cards or even a card with the special Textured Foil Double Exposure treatment
- COLLECTOR BOOSTER BOX CONTENTS—12 Duskmourn: House of Horror Collector Boosters, with 15 MTG cards in each pack
Beyond Boosters vs. Jumpstart Boosters
Foundations Jumpstart 2025 boosters are for players who want to skip the draft process and quickly shuffle up and play a deck. Each pack has 20 cards with about seven to eight lands per pack so that there’s enough mana to cast the spells. Players shuffle together two Jumpstart packs with individual themes for a 40-card deck. Beyond Boosters work quite differently in that they are purely for collecting purposes rather than Limited play the way Jumpstart boosters are.
- BEST BOOSTERS TO JUMP RIGHT IN—Jumpstart Boosters are a fast, fun way to jump into a Magic game; just grab two boosters, shuffle them together, and you’re ready to go!
- A GAME THAT FUSES ART, STORIES & STRATEGY—Magic: The Gathering is a collectible card game that weaves deep strategy, gorgeous art, fantastical stories, and a thriving fan community all together into a card game experience like no other
- ANIME-INSPIRED CARD IN EVERY PACK—Every Foundations Jumpstart Booster contains 1 card with anime-inspired art and includes 1–2 cards or rarity Rare or higher to jumpstart your collection
- 46 THEMES FOR WILD MASHUPS—Goblins, Dinosaurs, Ninjas, and Ne’er-do-wells, each pack has 1 of over 46 possible themes. Mix and match for creative carnage!
- BATTLE FRIENDS IN 2-PLAYER GAMES—With instant deckbuilding and delightful theme combos, Jumpstart is great for a quick game with a friend or fun way to teach friends and family to play Magic
How Many Beyond Boosters Are in a Booster Box?
The Assassin's Creed Beyond Boosters are sold in boxes of 24 Beyond Booster packs in a box, while a box of play boosters is 36 packs and collector booster boxes contain 12 packs.
How Many Beyond Boosters Are in a Case?

There are 12 boxes of Beyond Boosters in a case. Thus, the math dictates that there are 2,016 cards in a case of Beyond Boosters. You likely need to jump over to an online store like TCGPlayer to arrange this shipping, but this amount of sealed products is a purchase best suited to resellers and local games stores.
Are Beyond Boosters a Limited Release?
Beyond Boosters are not intended to be a limited release. If they sell well, you can expect them to be available for an upcoming set of a Universes Beyond property.
Wrap Up

Beyond Boosters take you through a universe that mixes it up with Magic. They’re not aligned with Magic’s storyline like the play boosters are, but rather a unique experience for Magic players who also love other fandoms featured in Universes Beyond sets.

So wait, do beyond boosters have cards from various different UB sets in a single pack, or is it just a booster for a single UB set?
Hey, thanks for reading. The boosters will have only cards from that specific set in the pack.
