Bonus sheets are something we’re starting to see more and more in Magic sets, starting with the Strixhaven Mystic Archive, then continuing with The Brothers’ War’s Retro Artifacts and March of the Machine’s Multiverse Legends. Wilds of Eldraine is going to have its own bonus sheet of reprints included in the set with Enchanting Tales, a series of enchantment cards that are themed around traditional fairy tales, which is appropriate for the fairy tale plane.

There are a number of sweet reprints already spoiled in the slot, and it’s definitely going to have an impact on the draft format, so it’s worth a look at what’s coming in Enchanting Tales and what it means for the formats you play!

What Are the Enchanting Tales Cards in Wilds of Eldraine?

Enchanting Tales is the bonus sheet of reprint cards in the Wilds of Eldraine set. It contains a selection of iconic enchantment cards that are themed around some of the fairytales told in western cultures, which is the inspiration for the plane of Eldraine. There are 63 cards included in this slot, and the printing doesn’t change the legality in any other format.

How Many Enchanting Tales Cards Are in WOE?

There are 63 cards included in Enchanting Tales in Wilds of Eldraine, and they have the set code WOT to set them apart from other cards in the set. Additionally, there are 20 anime variants that come in extended art foil versions with unique art.

Are Enchanting Tales Cards in Draft Boosters? The WOE Draft Format?

Enchanting Tales are included in all boosters in Wilds of Eldraine, including Draft Boosters. This means that like the bonus sheets from earlier sets, they’re legal in both Draft and Sealed games of the format.

We can already see a mix of power included in the cards spoiled so far, so not every card in the slot will be a game-ending bomb. That said, there’s some power in cards like Necropotence. Since enchantments run around games more than in the average set, it may be worth main boarding your Naturalize effects rather than giving them a sideboard slot to bring in when needed.

Where Can You Open Enchanting Tales Cards?

Enchanting Tales cards can be opened in Draft, Set, or Collector boosters in Wilds of Eldraine, with one copy guaranteed in each pack. Collector Boosters also give the chance of opening a confetti foil version, but we currently don’t know what this treatment is.

Where to Get Anime Enchanting Tales Cards

You have a 2.8% of opening an anime Enchanting Tales card in any given Wilds of Eldraine draft or set booster pack. They may also appear in the 2 wildcard slots within the set boosters. These cards will be in English unless they're opened in a Japanese pack.

How Many Are in Each Pack?

Draft, Set, and Collector boosters have a single guaranteed Enchanting Tales card. Collector Boosters have also had the opportunity of opening a “confetti foil” version of the Enchanting Tales cards.

Are Enchanting Tales Cards Standard Legal?

Enchanting Tales cards aren’t Standard-legal and don’t change the legality of the cards in any format, just like previous iterations of bonus sheets.

Enchanting Tales vs. Retro Frame Artifacts and Strixhaven Mystical Archive

When comparing Enchanting Tales to previous versions of the bonus sheet, there’s a few things to take into account. Each iteration of the bonus sheet has been at least partly tied to the set that it’s printed in. The tie this time is that each of the cards has art that ties it to a fairy tale, but previously it was things such as retro artifacts for The Brothers’ War (an artifact centric set which took place in the past) and Strixhaven’s Mystical Archive (a fictional stash of powerful spells kept in a restricted area of Archavios). The tie is maybe less strong here, but it’s still there.

We don’t yet know how influential enchantment cards are going to be, but I’ve seen no indication that they’re going to be Theros-levels of importance in the set. There’s potential for them to be powerful, though, so you may need to prioritize enchantment removal higher in your Limited decks.

From a value perspective, it’s looking pretty good so far. We’ve had both Doubling Season and Rhystic Study spoiled, and both are sought-after cards for Commander. If we see even a single good rare card spoiled after this, it’ll be a hit, from my point of view.

My personal favorite is still the Mystical Archive because it felt good in Limited formats (mainly being answers, not threats, but still interesting) and some spicy old cards like Channel included. I’m also personally getting a bit tired of the bonus sheet but can’t turn down free extra value in my boosters!

Now that you’ve learned all there is to know about Enchanting Tales, what do you think of it? Do you love the bonus slot or do you just shrug at another reprint slot in Standard-legal boosters? Are there any cards that you’re looking forward to drafting around from what’s been spoiled so far?

Whatever your thoughts, make sure to share them down below in the comments. There are a lot of positives here, but it’s not all roses and sunshine and there are some dissenting voices to the bonus sheet going around. Let us know what yours are in the comments or on Discord!

Until next time, may your tales be suitably enchanted!
