Persistent Constrictor | Illustration by Steve Ellis
The MTG card market has seen some big movers this week, largely centered around upgrades and synergy pieces for Lorwyn Eclipsedโs upcoming precons, Blight Curse and Dance of the Elements.
Quite a few of these possible upgrades have gone up to several times their value before the start of the week! If you want to upgrade these precons, these are the cards to keep an eye on.
Nest of Scarabs โ 592%
Nest of Scarabs has seen one of the sharpest spikes this week, jumping from less than a dollar to due to its importance to -1/-1 counters and the lack of a reprint in Blight Curse.

Nest of Scarabs is a critical support piece for -1/-1 counter decks as its creatures are invaluable for trading; it also works as part of several infinite combo loops to provide a convincing finisher. Read more about it here.
Crumbling Ashes โ 89%
Just like Nest of Scarabs, the price spike of Crumbling Ashes can be attributed to Blight Curse. This Eventide enchantment also skipped out on a reprint in the precon, and only has its original printing.

This cheap removal engine makes Auntie Ool, Cursewretch and other -1/-1 counter cards extremely dangerous. You only need to remove two creatures for it to be an exceptional card, and you can often get more with little effort.
Persistent Constrictor โ 579%
The -1/-1 counter synergies keep flowing with Persistent Constrictor, a powerful -1/-1 counter distributor from Duskmourn. Itโs seen a sharp spike from a dollar or two to nearly twenty.

The Constrictor is a little different than the previous entries; itโs not a generic support card so much as a perfect enabler for Auntie Ool, Cursewretch, and you can expect to see the two cards paired together often.
Maha, Its Feathers Night โ 38%
Maha, Its Feathers Night has seen a modest bump of 38%, undoubtedly due to Blight Curse. Although not strictly a -1/-1 counter payoff, Maha makes removing opposing threats far easier with its toughness reduction.

Maha hasnโt seen a huge spike, but itโs worth keeping an eye on, especially as so many cards that synergize with it are seeing their prices go up.
Flamekin Harbinger โ 32%
To take a break from Blight Curse, Flamekin Harbinger has seen a spike, likely for its utility in the Dance of the Elements as an upgrade. Itโs a powerful support piece for elementals, which is great since Ashling, the Limitless is given them a spotlight.

The price bump is no surprise considering the Harbinger didnโt get a reprint in the precon, though itโs not the only elemental to miss a reprint in the deck.
Sakashima the Impostor โ 400%
Perhaps the most puzzling jump this week was Sakashima the Impostor, leaping from $9-ish to a high of $45 dollars.

Source: MTGStocks
Itโs unclear what drove Sakashimaโs price up so much. Itโs especially surprising that itโs the old Sakashima; Sakashima of a Thousand Faces has great utility with Lowryn Eclipsed cards like Mirrorform and Mirrormind Crown, but this iteration of the ninja doesnโt have such obvious synergies. Perhaps thereโs an extremely spicy deck on the horizon?
