Everything in the Calling All Angels Commander deck: all 100 cards with current prices, what the deck is worth against the sealed price, the 0 new cards, and whether it is worth buying.
Flying, vigilance Each other Angel you control enters with an additional +1/+1 counter on it for each Angel you already control. {T}: Add {W}. Spend this mana only to cast an Angel spell.
Yup, this is exactly what I’d hope these decks would be. In fact, I was expecting maybe a little bit worse, since I figured the decks would be full of fluff and filler at this price point. But this deck delivers decent reprint value on top of being a perfectly fine foundation for an angels deck. It’s basically everything it says it’ll be on the tin, and its use of a top-tier commander should demonstrate a lot about the power of simple typal decks to new players.
For a normal Commander set review I might doc points for repetitious themes or a lack of complexity, but that’s really an advantage for these decks specifically. Again, these aren’t designed with veteran players in mind, and this deck does the job it was designed to do perfectly.
The names kind of do all the heavy lifting for me here, but yeah, Calling All Angels is a mono-white angel deck. It uses the best angel commander ever printed, Giada, Font of Hope, to ramp into battlecruiser angels and take over the skies. There’s a lifegain subtheme here, which is very common for angel decks.
There are other legendaries you could run as the commander, like Lyra Dawnbringer or Linvala, the Preserver, but Giada’s as popular as it is for a reason, and it’s the definitive best leader of the deck.
My plan here is for a mild upgrade that cuts some cards that I don’t like with this particular commander and lesser angels in favor of better replacements. Namely, I want to get rid of some cards that want Giada to attack to give you value, and some of these angels can come out for cheaper options, or angels that have a little more impact on the board. I’m not looking to juice it up too much, just make it slightly more competitive than it is out of the box.
