Weโ€™re a week into Reality Fracture, and one thing is very clearโ€ฆPlaneswalkers are having a bit of a moment! The Multiverse Reforged precon, helmed by Jace, Multiverse Architect, is a near-perfect superfriends commander. Itโ€™s strong right out of the box, its commander employs a sweet polymorph strategy that will help you power out โ€˜walkers and big creatures. It also is a pseudo-Ghostly Prison effect for planeswalkers, which is mega-powerful in the command zone.

As is tradition, people are going berserk on the secondary market looking for ways to further juice this precon. Oath of Teferi has been steadily rising for the past week or so because it effectively allows you to double dip on your loyalty abilities. But what if I told you that there are two other cards that allows you toโ€ฆinfinitely dip?

Enter Aminatou

Multiverse Reforged is stacked with big olโ€™ creatures and a few powerful planeswalkers. Thereโ€™s literally an infinite combo in the deck right out of the box. If youโ€™re looking to max this thing out, look no further than Aminatou, the Fateshifter.

At face value, Aminatou seems quite simple. Its +1 offers card selection, its -1 can flicker a permanent you own, and its -6 will donate everyoneโ€™s nonland permanents to each other. Notably, its -1 can be used to steal back a creature youโ€™ve donated since it cares about permanents you own, not permanents you control.

The reason weโ€™re excited here isnโ€™t because of its wacky ult. Itโ€™s that second ability that really matters, especially when used in conjunction with Oath of Teferi and Spark Double

The Combo

  1. With Oath of Teferi on the field, cast Aminatou, the Fateshifter.
  2. Cast Spark Double targeting Aminatou to create a nonlegendary copy of Aminatou.
  3. -1 original Aminatou targeting the nonlegendary copy to flicker it.
  4. When Spark Double re-enters, target Aminatou again.
  5. -1 the nonlegendary Aminatou targeting a permanent you own.
  6. Thanks to Oath of Teferi, you can -1 nonlegendary Aminatou to flicker a permanent you own, and then -1 it again to flicker the original Aminatou.

And, voila! Youโ€™ve now created an infinite flicker loop that can hit all permanents you own.

Is It Worth Playing?

Well, you could get infinite mana by choosing a land you own during step 6. If youโ€™ve got another nontoken creature on the board you could also toss Corpse Knight into the mix to drain the entire table and win there. Alternatively, Altar of the Brood can easily mill the whole table out. Maybe youโ€™ve got Liliana the Faultless on the board. That one will net you infinite life, and itโ€™ll give you some much needed protection for the combo.

Firstly, I know what youโ€™re thinking. โ€œThis is a three card combo, how will I ever find the pieces?โ€ Luckily, you donโ€™t need to worry too much there. If youโ€™re running a superfriends deck, you want Spark Double in the list anyway since itโ€™ll easily allow you to copy your best planeswalkers regardless of any combo potential. Oath of Teferi is also good here regardless of whether or not youโ€™re using it in the combo; in MTG, itโ€™s almost always good to double dip.

Aminatou only costs Esper to cast, but Oath costs , and it techincally has a lower floor than the other cards in the combo. Spark Double makes this a bit more tough at . Clever Impersonator, an easy alternative to Spark Double. is even harder to cast at {{.

Truth be told, this is the kind of combo that works perfectly in a high Bracket 3 or Bracket 4 Multiverse Reforged upgrade list. People are clearly excited about the possibilities here, near mint copies of Aminatou, the Fateshifter have gone from $5 to around $30 practically overnight. None of the cards at play here are dead outside the combo, Spark Double goes in a million different decks. And, hey, maybe youโ€™ll find a way to use Aminatouโ€™s wacky ult to win somehow.

Now thatโ€™d be sick.
