2027 Magic Teaster Art + Cards
Wizards teased the new in-universe sets scheduled for 2027 today on Twitter, showing what appears to be 3 slices of card art from each new set. Each slice is hidden behind a blur, but with some eye-squinting, there are some hidden details that can point us toward what sets might be coming up.

Is That a New Underwater Plane?

The first slice immediately appears to be underwater. The light-blue background that gets brighter towards what seems to be the surface is one thing, but the objects in the foreground look like coral backed by seaweed (or some other magical underwater macroalgae).
This would actually make sense in the context of current Standard and how much attention merfolk have gotten recently. Marvel Super Heroes brought 3 dedicated new merfolk to Standard to back up the ones from Lorwyn: Eclipsed.
What's particularly notable is one of those is a merfolk lord. A potential merfolk deck in Standard has two lords plus Deepway Navigator. What's really holding it back is Izzet's powerful 1-drops, which Merfolk has yet to match with cards like Harmonized Trio (brainstorm isn't an exceptional payoff) or Mindspring Merfolk (slow).
Eldrazi? Omnath? Both..?

My first thought when I saw this slice was actually Baron Nashor from League of Legends, but that's obviously not it. So what's the next closest thing? Eldrazi. Or maybe a weird variant of Omnath. Either way, Reality Fracture will probablyโฆ fracture some realities and planes, and this looks like some kind of void/eldrazi corruption weirdness. Almost like a void version of Omnath, Locus of Creation.
Poor guy was completed and now it looks like it's getting even weirder.
That's Obviously Amonkhet

This has got to be return to Amonkhet, right? Sandy, orange background? Check. What looks like some kind of mummy/zombie with its right temple looking gross? Check. We haven't been to the plane since 2020, and Amonkhet Remastered was exclusive to Arena. It's one of the biggest planes and Magic sets that we haven't truly returned to. Theros, Ravnica, Eldraine, Tarkir, Strixhaven, Lorwyn: they've all been covered a ton in the last few years.
That said, I think Ikoria could also be here. This could be some weird mutant creature that just happens to look zombie-ish in the desert. Ikoria was a slam dunk set and hasn't been touched since 2020, which puts it at the same level of returnability as Amonkhet.
How Wrong Will I Be?
I like to think at least one of these predictions will come true. Based on how 2025 and 2026 went, Wizards is clearly loving returning to old Magic planes. We're getting a โnewโ (read: non-return) set with Reality Fracture in October, and they've clearly shown they're fine doing multiple return sets in one year (Lorwyn: Eclipsed immediately into Secrets of Strixhaven).
I think the most likely set that I didn't predict is Alara. That's an OG set with a fond nostalgia appeal, similar to Lorwyn, and we haven't returned to it. It's kind of a dark horse. But it would make sense. It's shards complete the 3-color combinations that Tarkir: Dragonstorm started, and I'm sure it would be a fan-favorite for the same reasons that Lorwyn: Eclipsed was so well recieved.
Think I'm wrong? Tell me below in a comment, and I'll admit defeat this weekend if you're right. Make sure to check out our new spoilers hub for all the new cards that end up getting revealed.
