Sliver Gravemother – art by Chris Rahn

Two weeks ago, Edge of Eternities, Episode 2 dropped, in passing, one of the hottest words in Magic: Slivers.

Last week, Magic Head Designer Mark Rosewater teased a card that grants an ability to Slivers. And yesterday the Edge of Eternities official reveals finally unveiled what “Slivers… in Space!” look like.

The hype here has been so high that Thrumming Hivepool is very likely causing the first Edge of Eternities price spike: Sliver Gravemother has shot up by 300%, with a couple of other Slivers following Big Mommie's cue.

Sliver Gravemother has shot to the moon, with her borderless version tripling in price since yesterday from about $12 to around $36-$37 in the US market…

… and the regular version jumping more that 50%, from about $10 to over $15, and with current near-mint copies now listed at about $30 on TCGPlayer:

Sliver Gravemother is the third most-popular Sliver commander, quite a long way behind the first two (The First Sliver, and Sliver Overlord). But it's extremely popular in the 99s of other five-color commander decks.

And, notably, online platforms seem to have very few copies of her on sale – which leads us to another Sliver-related item going up in price.

Where Slivers Come From

Mommie Sliver (and also Lazotep Sliver and Sliver Hivelord (more about them in a bit) come from the Sliver Swarm Commander precon, from Commander Masters.

Sliver Gravemother‘s huge spike happened overnight, but her precon has been steadily gaining traction for months:

Sliver Swarm has more than doubled in price since the start of the year: You could get it for less than $90 in January, but you'd have to pay over $180 as of today. And 30% of this rally happened since last week, when Mark Rosewater teaser confirmed Slivers for Edge of Eternities.

… gaining roughly 50% since last week and, just like Gravemother, with very few listings in stock.

Sliver Hivelord, originally from Magic 2015 and reprinted alongside Sliver Gravemother and Lazotep Sliver in the Sliver Swarm precon, shows a similar pattern and has been rallying up to around $6-$7 at the moment of writing.

What Will Happen With Sliver Gravemother's Price?

With our usual caveat that this is not investment advice (always do your own research!), it's hard to overstate how hype Reddit seems about Thrumming Hivepool, Edge of Eternities‘ sliver card.

Edge of Eternities will also reprint Sliver Overlord as in the Special Guests bonus sheet:

Sliver Overlord won't be Standard-legal, but as the second most-popular Sliver commander it will very likely keep hype high for the hive.

And there's a slim chance that we see more slivers in EOE. Mark Rosewater teaser just talks about one, so it's very likely that Thrumming Hivepool is all we'll see – but the odds for at least one other sliver card are not zero. And if just one card can cause this much ruckus, just imagine two!
