Zaffai and the Tempests (Secrets of Strixhaven) - art by Olivier Bernard

Secrets of Strixhaven has become a big factor in the current Magic card market. Last week we saw how the Silverquill Influence Commander precon was pushing several cards up, and now other Commander precons have joined the action.

Still, one of the biggest movers came from a different MTG format: Modern.

Let's find out what's up!

Erayo, Soratami Ascendant was one of the biggest movers this week, but this one has nothing to do with Commander or Strixhaven.

Erayo, Soratami Ascendant[/card has been seeing a lot of buying interest after AspiringSpike went 5-0 with an [card]Erayo, Soratami Ascendant list in a recent Modern event and started hyping it up. Whether the deck really has legs in the format is still an open question, it's an extremely expensive deck if you wanted to assemble it from scratch.

But Erayo, Soratami Ascendant being a single-print card from 20 years ago, and with supply already thin, near-mint copies are listed at around $50 or more at the time of writing.

Retether

Retether

As we reported last week, the new Silverquill Influence Commander precon from the Secrets of Strixhaven lineup puts Killian, Decisive Mentor in the command zone, and auras are having a great time when it comes to prices.

Retether had a huge spike in demand when the precons were announced, which makes perfect sense because it's a great upgrade for Killian's precon: If you’re loading up the board with enchantments and trying to squeeze long-term value out of them, getting a pile of them back at once is exactly what you want.

Retether has been reprinted just once, in Wilds of Eldraine, but the reprints are even more expensive than the original!

Vampiric Link

Vampiric Link is another card riding the Killian, Decisive Mentor wave.

Content creators were quick to highlight Vampiric Link as a strong fit for the new commander, and the synergy is easy to see. Killian, Decisive Mentor wants you to play Auras and meddle with combat, and Vampiric Link slots neatly into that plan while giving the deck another cheap, annoying aura. As of right now, nearly half of the Killian upgrades and theorycrafted brews pack a copy of this black enchantment.

Magnus the Red

Turns out that Killian is not the only one with a cool Commander precon, though!

The new Prismari Artistry, with Rootha, Mastering the Moment as its face commander, seems very interested in Magnus the Red.

The synergy here is pretty obvious: Magnus reduces your spells cost for each creature token, and Rootha turns spells you cast into a source of creature tokens. A match made in… well, wherever it is that a Demon Primarch and an Orc Sorcerer may happen to meet!

Magnus the Red has never been a cheap card, but has gone from about $5 to well over $10 since he became an obvious Prismari Artistry upgrade.

Change of Plans

Change of Plans

Change of Plans seems tied to the new Quandrix Unlimited deck, headed by Zimone, Infinite Analyst.

Change of Plans has been showing up in some Zimone, Infinite Analyst decks already, nearly doubling in price for near-mint copies in the US market since last week.
