Edgar Markov, one of the most powerful, expensive, and popular vampire commanders in Magic, will be reprinted for the first time in Innistrad Remastered.

Edgar Markov

According to the announcement, the new remastered set will be released on January 24, 2025, making it the first set of the new year. While the other aspects and cards of the set have yet to be released, Edgar Markov is about as big of a reveal as you can get.

The card hasn't been printed since its first edition in Commander 2017, and currently has a price tag of over $100!

Just How Good is Edgar Markov?

Edgar Markov is a $100 precon commander for good reason. It's by far the best vampire commander in Magic. It's Mardu, which incorporates all of the major colors of the type, and has an incredible typal ability. It makes vampires, has incredible stats, and can easily distribute +1/+1 counters across your battlefield.

To top things off, it fits thematically. Edgar Markov is one of the top vampires and most powerful there are, so it would be awkward to see it led by any other member of the creature type.

Its abilities are also incredibly synergistic with other vampires like Cordial Vampire, Stromkrik Captain. and Indulgent Aristocrat.

Vampires have some of the most powerful typal lords and widespread buffs among all creature types, rivaling those of Merfolk and Elves. On top of that, they're often well-statted and efficient creatures. That means you won't get knocked off balance on your way to its high mana cost.

Speculating on Innistrad Remastered

While it'll be hard to top Edgar Markov spot as the biggest spoiler of Innistrad Remastered, Innistrad is a plane with tons of classic creatures and spells. Snapcaster Mage and Liliana of the Veil have seen their fair share of reprints and are much more accessible, but Parallel Lives, Bloodline Keeper, and Tree of Redemption are all looking like prime targets.

There are even some other iconic characters related to the lore of Innistrad that we may see, like the classic Garruk Relentless or Mask of Avacyn.

Either way, though, Edgar Markov is a total bomb spoiler and a great way to build up hype and interest in the upcoming set!
