Not even a month ago players received out latest Black Lotus callback with Radiant Lotus in Aetherdrift, which actually lives up to the Lotus name. Not to be outdone, Club Moxen has officially inducted a new member: Mox Jasper, coming to decks near you with the release of Tarkir Dragonstorm.
Magic's Newest Mox

Well, coming to dragon decks near you. It seems one way to make an imminently fair mox is to staple a typal restriction to it. Dead on arrival, many might say, and they're probably not wrong.
โMoxโ is an exciting word to see in the name of a Magic card, but making a mox that only works if you have creatures in play, let alone a specific type of creature, greatly diminishes its usefulness.
But wait a second, Mox Amber had a stipulation on it and that card broke Constructed formats for a little while. Well, as it turns out โlegendaryโ is much less of a restriction than โdragon,โ especially when you consider the mana value on dragons tends to beโฆ a lot.
What would it take to make Mox Jasper a card worthy of the Mox name? Likely some competitively viable 1- or 2-mana dragons not named Changeling Outcast or Universal Automaton. Seems unlikely. No matter, even if the mana rock doesn't take off in Constructed, dragon decks are by far some of the most popular in all of casual Commander, so it'll have a home there.
Dragons are already no stranger to typal mana rocks, with cards like Orb of Dragonkind, Dragon's Hoard, and Carnelian Orb of Dragonkind slotting into dragon decks and nowhere else.
Headlining Tarkir Dragonstorm

Mox Jasper will be the Headliner for Tarkir Dragonstorm. For those who missed the memo with Edgar Markov in Innistrad Remastered and The Aetherspark in Aetherdrift, each new set for the foreseeable future will have a โHeadliner,โ an iconic card from the set that'll also receive 500 serialized versions in Collector boosters. You can see the Dan Frazier Headliner art up above, in the artifact retro frame no less.
Not much use in speculating on a price-point considering the Edgar Markov / Aetherspark versions that have been discovered are selling in the thousands of dollars. Mox Jasper is a less objectively powerful card than either of those, but the collectability will probably put it in a similar range. Feel free to venture a guess, and never underestimate a dragon player's dedication to their deck. If anything, this is now a status symbol for The Ur-Dragon players everywhere. Well, 500 of them at least.
