One of the things I enjoyed the most as a former paper Magic player was cosmetics. Getting foils to pimp my deck, a complete set of a particular edition of a card, even going so wild as to get all my lands with the same art for the sake of symmetry.
Sleeves were also a big part of my obsession. But there were a few problems: sleeves get dirty, they get damaged, and there were so. Many. Options that I liked. I ended up spending a lot of money on sleeves to bling multiple decks or just replace the ones that got cracked. Luckily all of these issues are non-existent on MTG Arena.
Today I’ll cover the benefits of sleeves on MTGA and how to get your hands on them. Are you ready? Let’s get started!
How Do You Get Sleeves on MTGA?

Before jumping to the list of all the sleeves on Arena (and trust me, there are a lot), let’s go over the different ways to get them. There are actually a whopping eight different ways to acquire sleeves in MTGA.
The MTG Arena Store
Daily Deals
MTGA’s store has a Daily Deals section that rotates every day and usually features multiple cosmetic upgrades including sleeves. These deals reset at 8:00 am PST or 4:00 pm UTC, so keep an eye on it to make sure you don’t miss any good deals.
Exquisite Sleeves
Exquisite sleeves are also available in Arena’s Store. These are special sleeves that (sometimes) feature animated VFX and usually stick around until a new set is released.
Limited Time
Each set release features offers for limited time cosmetics themed around the set’s key cards or characters. These usually feature exquisite sleeves and bundles.
Midweek Magic Event Promo Pack Rewards
You can get promotional codes from your LGS for participating in special MTGA events on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. These event promo packs contain different cosmetic styles including sleeves.
Arena Open
The Arena Open is a 2-day event that offers cash prizes for players that manages to pull seven wins on day 2. That’s pretty awesome, but don’t worry if you don’t manage to get there; you’ll get an exclusive sleeve just for signing up!
Mastery Pass
If you buy the Mastery Pass for a particular set, you can get one regular and one exquisite card sleeve (assuming you hit the associated Mastery levels).
Prerelease Set Bundles
Prerelease set bundles stick around until the actual release date of the set and include multiple items like tokens, cosmetics, booster packs, pets, and sleeves.
Arena Events
Aside from the events I already mentioned, there are plenty of others that have also rewarded players with sleeves either as a “participation ribbon” or for earning a certain number of wins. Some examples include challenges, set events, and eSports competition promotions like the #FindYourChampion hashtag for Worlds.
Secret Lair Drops
If you’ve got your eye on a Secret Lair drop but aren’t sure if it’s worth it, I’ve got some good news! A lot of drops come with an MTG Arena redemption code for the cosmetics offered in the Lair. It’s not always a sleeve, though, so keep an eye out for that.
FNM Codes
Back when Friday Night Magic was still a thing you could get a promo code for playing at participating LGSes. These codes offer cosmetic styles including sleeves.
The pandemic has skewed things a little bit though as these events have been replaced by midweek events. Still, if you have some old FNM codes lying around, you can redeem them anytime.
How Do You Buy Sleeves on MTGA?
There are a couple different ways to buy sleeves to enhance your gameplay session on MTG Arena. Let’s start with the easy route: buying them from the Store.
The Store
1. Open the Store tab from the top navigation bar.
2. Open the tab you want to browse from the bottom navigation and use the left-right scroll bar to look at all of the available sleeves. You can check “Daily Deals,” “Bundles,” “Sleeves,” etc.
3. Click on the sleeve you want to buy and select whether you want to use gold or gems (if they’re both available) to pay.
GrayVikingGames
There’s no other way to buy sleeves in-game if they’re not in the Store. But some websites, like GrayVikingGames, sell promo codes from products like Secret Lair drops.
1. Open the GrayVikingGames site and then click on “Cosmetics.”
Note: You can use the Shop By options on the left to look for specific products, including “Sleeves.”
Or just click here to go directly to the Sleeves page.
2. Click on the sleeve you want and then click “Add to Cart.” Once you’ve added all of the sleeves (and any other cosmetics) you want, you can head to your cart to complete your checkout.
4. You’ll get an automated email with the code within 2 minutes.

Is There Any Way to Get Old Sleeves in MTGA?

It’s possible to get some old sleeves if you know where to look, but not all of them. The vast majority are random drops from FNM and Midweek Magic events. Your other option outside of those is to wait for the sleeves you want to become available in Arena’s Store or check GrayVikingGames to see if they have them on sale.
I should point out that not all sleeves can be obtained in the ways mentioned above. Some exclusive sleeves from Challenges probably won’t be available for purchase at all since they’re meant to entice players to join the event. Still, they could come back in in some sort of in-game promotion.
How Do You Change Your Deck’s Sleeves in MTGA?
Maybe you already own some sleeves and just don’t know how to add them to your deck, or maybe you’re just wonder why they’re not appearing on your new decks. Don’t worry! I’ll teach you how to do this in a few steps.
1. Open the deck that you want to add your sleeves to in Arena’s Decks tab.
2. Click on the sleeve that pops out slightly from behind the deck box next to your deck’s name. This will either be on the right of the screen or the left depending on which deck layout you have selected.
3. Click on the sleeve that you want to use for the deck. If you’d like to make this sleeve the default option whenever you make a new deck, click “Make Default” on the bottom left and then “OK” in the prompt that appears. Click “Select” on the bottom right when you’re done.
Note: You can see all of the sleeves currently available on Arena here, not just the ones that you own. Sleeves with a lock over them are not owned. If you click on a sleeve you don’t own, the “Select” option on the bottom right will be replaced with a “Store” button that redirects you to Arena’s Store to buy the sleeve.
What Are The Country Flag Sleeves? How Do You Get Them?

You might have run into some peculiar sleeves while playing on MTG Arena. I’m specifically talking about sleeves with country flag themes.
These are sleeves given to streamers by WotC. They’re also usually given codes for these exclusive sleeves to give away during their live streams. You don't see these very often except during streamed competitions. Union Jack sleeves and sleeves with the Italian flag were some of the most popular ones.
These flag sleeves were also later available in the Store for a limited time so more players could get them. This has happened twice so far, so be sure to always check the Daily Deals if you want to get your hands on these.

When it comes to cosmetics, the sky really is the limit. While most of these sleeves are just extended versions of cards, some are very unique, especially those released with Secret Lair drops or one the Mastery Track.
