About the Set

The Jurassic World set will contain 18 mechanically unique cards found in collector and set boosters of The Lost Caverns of Ixalan. The crossover is similar to the Transformers cards that were released alongside The Brothers’ War earlier this year.
Set Mechanics
While the cards are confirmed to be mechanically unique, we don’t know what mechanics will be introduced.
Speculation
What mechanics might we see with the Jurassic Park cards? First and foremost, there will be something with fossils, as it’s a pretty important part of the movies. My first thought was a transforming, double-faced card where the front face is a fossil that flips into a dinosaur by paying some cost.
It’s also possible that we’ll see some form of fossil token that functions similarly to a Food or Clue token that either makes our dinosaurs stronger or helps us find them.
As for the dinosaurs themselves, we can expect a velociraptor and a T-Rex to come into play. I expect the raptor to be red with haste and the T-Rex to be a massive trampler.
For the human characters, excavation will likely be a big part of the strategy. I can easily see a world where John Hammond gets a Dimir card that reanimates dinosaurs for the graveyard, in the name of science…and money, with a few expenses spared. Beyond that, it’s hard to say what we’ll see from the set.

Wrap Up

Universes Beyond has united Magic with pop culture in a way we’ve never seen before. The ability to play with cards from some of our other favorite franchises, like Transformers and The Lord of the Rings, helps unite levels of fandom and create new entry points for players to join us in one of the best games ever.
It makes perfect sense to have the Jurassic World insert set come out alongside The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, bringing some classic dinosaurs together with the plane that introduced the creature type to the game.
