Final Fantasy x MTG was released worldwide less than two weeks ago, but reveals and spoilers for Edge of Eternities have already started. That's the new normal for MTG sets: They just don't stop coming, with EOE set to arrive next August 1st.
And, as with any big reveals, the Magic card market has started reacting to the reveals. One of the first cards moving up thanks to EOE is Mirrodinโs Power Conduit, which nearly doubled in price since last week:

Power Conduit was already trending upwards before the EOE reveals, but the huge increase in number of copies traded since last Friday strongly suggest the spike is EOE-related:

The other card that went sharply up is a bit of a secret cEDH tech, Jeweled Amulet, a mana rock that sees quite a bit of play in top-tier Commander decks, even though it's not too popular in lower-bracket decks.

Like Power Conduit, Jeweled Amulet doubled in price overnight, from about $8 to around $16 in US markets.
So, what is Edge of Eternities bringing to Magic to make these cards colorless artifacts spike?
Why Is Power Conduit's Price Spiking?
In two words, The Seriema.
In one word: Spacecraft. Yes, in Magic!
One of the first EOE cards revealed last Friday is from a new artifact subtype, โSpacecraft.โ Think like vehiclesโฆ in space!
And they come with a new keyword, Station, which reads: โTap another creature you control: Put charge counters equal to its power on this Spacecraft. Station only as a sorcery. Itโs an artifact creature at 7+โ
For Power Conduit, the key words in this keyword are โcharge countersโ โ which is exactly what this Mirrodin artifact is here to do!
What's better, according to comments from Magic's Head Designer Mark Rosewater, โStation is not inherently tied to Spacecraft ruleswise.โ And in another comment Rosewater strongly implied that WotC can reuse this charged mechanic outside of space-faring settings.
Given that Power Conduit is a bit of a rare uncommon โ outside of its original printing in Mirrodin, it was only reprinted in The List bonus sheet, and one of the Commander precons from Streets of New Capenna โ it's a bit harder to find than uncommons from recent sets, above all if you want a near-mint copy.
Why Is Jeweled Amulet's Price Spiking?
Jeweled Amuletโs story is a bit more complex. TCGPlayer data shows a spike of interest by the time of the EOE announcements, which strongly suggest interest in its upcoming synergy with charge counters.
But Jeweled Amulet is a well-known mana rock in cEDH circles, even though it's somewhat of a niche card and not too popular outside top-tier decks.
And, what do you know: Even when charge counters are an Edge of Eternities thing, one of the culprits of Jeweled Amuletโs seems to beโฆ Vivi Ornitier!
Yes, the little Izzet Wizard from Final Fantasy, who's been behind a ton of price spikes these last few weeks, has also been adopting Jeweled Amulet a lot: Nearly 15% of Vivi decks (which is a ton of decks, by the way, given how popular he is as an Izzet commander) pack a copy of Jeweled Amulet.
Vivi couldn't care less about charge counters, but a mana rock that can get him down sooner, and which also happens to be a zero-mana noncreature spell that will trigger his second ability, seems to be coming in handy.
What Will Happen to Power Conduit and Jeweled Amulet's Prices?
With the usual caveat that this is not investment advice (always do your own research, folks!), what we have here is a price spike for two cards that already see quite a bit of play, that seem to have strong synergy with a core mechanic from an upcoming Standard set, and also with a Commander precon which focuses heavily on counters.
Both cards are uncommons, but Jeweled Amulet was printed just once all the way back in Ice Age, and as noted Power Conduit has just two reprints.
On the other hand, โPower Conduitโ sounds exactly like the name of a card you'd expect to see in a space setting, so it wouldn't be too shocking to see it reprinted either in the Edge of Eternities main set, or in the Counter Intelligence precon.
At any rate, though, expect counter-matters card to get charged as EOE approaches!
