Reality Fracture Prerelease faces two rules changes and a potential pack shortage that could lead to a tight event. In July, Wizards announced the end of the At-Home Prerelease program and a change to how Two-Headed Giant Prerelease will be supported. Additionally, at the end of August, they announced a potential “tightness around the supply of Reality Fracture Play Boosters” following the set’s Oct. 2 release.
At-Home Prerelease Is Canceled
The first changed announced by Wizards on the WPN site is the discontinued support of At-Home Prerelease. For the unfamiliar, AHP was introduced around COVID to help support local game stores in a time when in-person play was heavily impacted by the world.
LGS can still sell Prerelease kits to players who aren’t participating in scheduled Prerelease events; however, those kits no longer count towards that LGS’s event attendance, the metric Wizards uses to calculate how many kits to allocate to that store for future Prerelease events. This may lead to game stores selling fewer Prerelease kits outside of events to maintain attendance numbers and not short the next event, but this will be a decision made on a store-by-store basis, so check with your LGS.
Support For Two-Headed Giant Drops

Two-Headed Giant is a popular Prerelease format in which teams of two players build two decks and battle each other, sharing a life total but not a board. It’s a great way to make sure that you play with your friend, an inviting format for parents and guardians looking to introduce their children to Magic, or just play Magic differently than you normally would. But Wizards is changing how the format is supported, starting with Reality Fracture.
Previously, each member of the team would receive one Prerelease kit each, then build their decks from this shared Sealed pool of twelve boosters and two bonus rares and go to town! But now, Wizards recommends only one Prerelease pack plus two additional Play Boosters for a pool of eight Play Boosters and one bonus card, pitched by the WPN article as an improvement to balance and a lower barrier to entry.
Importantly, while this is a recommendation by Wizards, they were also very clear that LGSs can continue running Two-Headed Giant events that offer two Prerelease kits per players. Because this option is given to the stores, it’s best to check in with your LGS to see what kind of Two-Headed Giant events they plan to support.
Drought Causes Pack Tightness
The most recent challenge facing Reality Fracture was the announcement of a “tightness” of Reality Fracture Play Boosters players may face shortly following the set’s release, announced August 28 on the main website.
The short summary is a drought in Panama has affected the flow of goods in the Panama Canal, causing widespread shipping delays that includes a ship transporting Play Boosters. While Wizards doesn’t expect this to impact Prerelease weekend or even the following official release weekend, they warn “the supply of Play Boosters may dry up quickly” after those initial weeks. Based on the information in the article, this supply issue will only impact players in North America, and it’s unclear how widespread the issue may be.
