After what seemed like ages with no news about the supposed Magic: The Gathering live action Netflix movie, we finally have confirmation of one critical piece of information: Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, The Last of Us, The Fantastic Four) will be playing the role of lovable, perpetually lost homunculus Fblthp from the MTG multiverse.
An Eye for Talent

โIt just makes sense,โ says director Francis Ford Copola, who came out of retirement to be a part of the filmmaking process for this movie. โFblthpโs everywhere in Ravnica. Pascalโs everywhere in Hollywood. And they always both look Totally Lost.โ
Naturally, the internet has exploded with praise and support from many, as well as ire and confusion from others. Some have called it โthe perfect castingโ, noting similarities between Fblthpโs typical illustrations and Pascalโs naturally seafloor greenish skin tone and large daggerlike goblin ears. There have also been many comments stating that Fblthp has always felt like he should have facial hair, anyway, and this casting gives him an edgy feel befitting of the character.
But itโs not all praise and glory for the well-known actor. The haters have all pointed to one glaring oversight: Pedro Pascal has two eyes.
โYes, itโs true,โ states Netflix correspondent Skippy Skipperson, โFblthp is typically portrayed with a singular bulbous eyeball. Pascal actually has one of those too, itโs just that he also happens to have another.โ Skipperson goes on to note that thanks to Christopher Nolanโs The Odyssey, all the cyclopes in Hollywood were already committed to another film. โShame,โ says Copola. โWeโll just kind of have Pedro like squint a lot or something.โ
Who Else Is Joining the Cast?
Pascalโs the first official member of the MTG movie cast, but there have been rumors abound concerning other potential members.
Recent pictures show Reba McEntire (The Reba Show, you wouldnโt know her from anything else) at lunch with some of the showโs producers, wearing her usual pyromancerโs gauntlet and goggles. Itโs unclear if she were to join the cast who exactly sheโd be playing.

A leaked image was also circulating around recently that suggested Flubbs, the Fool would have a major role in the movie. Redditors were quick to claim the image was poorly edited, likely by someone with no real image editing talent. Netflix immediately took the image down, and has not commented on it yet.
Kevin Hart (Borderlands, unfortunately) has been very vocal about the upcoming movie, leading people to believe he might play a small role, no pun intended. Pictures have surfaced of Hart attending a recent Halloween party adorned in professionally made mind-mage attire strikingly similar to that of Jace Beleren. Will MTG fans finally get the Jace vs. Fblthp showdown theyโve been waiting on for years?
There are still a lot of questions surrounding this film, but we have full confidence knowing Pedro Pascal will be part of the cast. We literally havenโt seen anything without him in the last decade anyway.
This is a fictional piece of satire; the characters and situations described are not meant to be taken literally. Just have fun with it, folks!
