The endless wave of Secret Lairs released during 2025 has been a mixed bag of drops that either sell out immediately and appeal to a wide range of players (Spongebob, Deadpool), or fall flat due to lackluster card quality or jacked up prices (looking at you, โEveryone's Invitedโ Commander deck).
The latest Final Fantasy Secret Lairs should fall firmly in the first camp, given how much hype there's been surrounding the main Final Fantasy set and the accompanying Commander decks.
More Final Fantasy Fun
This Secret Lair announcement comes in the midst of Final Fantasy spoiler season, just a few days after the full reveal of the Commander decks. Based on this post from @shiganaimtg, we can expect three separate Secret Lair drops with the following themes:
- Game Over: Features five cards depicting main story antagonists and final bosses, like Sephiroth, Ultimicia, and Sin.
- Weapons: As in, actual physical weapons/equipment. Not to be confused with the mega-monster โWeaponโ creatures that appear in some Final Fantasy titles.
- Grimoire: Powerful instants and sorceries depicting mainline protagonists like Vivi, Yuna, and Noctis.
Game Over

The folks over on Reddit have done some translating for us, which leaves us with a Secret Lair drop featuring:
- Day of Judgment featuring Sin from Final Fantasy X.
- Temporal Extortion featuring Ultimicia from Final Fantasy VIII.
- Toxic Deluge featuring Kefka from Final Fantasy VI.
- Praetor's Grasp featuring Ardyn from Final Fantasy XV.
- Star of Extinction featuring Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII.
Star of Extinction and Day of Judgment are busts on value, though these exact printings might fetch a higher price. Toxic Deluge is a top-tier board wipe for Commander, though it's been sitting around $5 after its Modern Horizons 3 reprint. Temporal Extortion is actually surprisingly expensive at about $15, with this being its first ever reprint, and Praetor's Grasp is slightly above $10 as well. It's not the most valuable Secret Lair of all time, but it's serviceable, and seeing these Final Fantasy villains in the art is pretty cool.
Weapons

More translations courtesy of Reddit. Here we have an entire Secret Lair dedicated to some of the most iconic weapons from the franchise:
- Umezawa's Jitte as Cloud's Buster Sword from Final Fantasy VII.
- Staff of the Storyteller as Yuna's staff from Final Fantasy X.
- Blade of Selves as Clive's Invictus from Final Fantasy XVI.
- Colossus Hammer as Gaia's Black Hyposkhesphyra from Final Fantasy XIV.
- Sword of Truth and Justice as Tidus's Brotherhood from Final Fantasy X.
All of these cards see play in some capacity across different formats, and there are some big value hits with Sword of Truth and Justice (~$30) and Umezawa's Jitte (~$10). Staff of the Storytellerโs a modest $6, and Colossus Hammer + Blade of Selves are a few bucks as well. No total busts here, and playable cards across the board. Not too shabby!
Grimoire

Reddit translations show us that the Grimoire drop includes the following cards:
Heroic Intervention always hovers over $10 no matter how many reprints it gets, and Commander powerhouse Cyclonic Rift pushes around $30-40 depending on the copy, so safe to say this drop is worth the money, assuming it's sold at a typical Secret Lair price point. Lightning Bolt and Damn are fine cards that see play, though Prismatic Endingโs definitely a bust as a sub 50-cent uncommon. Also feels like we could've gotten a more representative version of Yuna's Holy spell (look at Ultimate Magic: Holy from the main set).
One More Thingโฆ

There's also a promo Gilded Lotus tied to these Secret Lair drops, depicting a golden flower in Aerith's garden from Final Fantasy VII. It's unclear how players will actually get the card, though. It could be a bonus card randomly inserted into certain Secret Lairs (a la the Smothering Tithe from Spongebob drops), or maybe it's an add-on for spending a certain amount on the Secret Lair website, which shouldn't be that hard to do with these drops.
The price remains to be seen, but don't be shocked if it's more expensive than normal. Universes Beyond sets have already been confirmed to have higher price points than normal products, and that could very well carry over to Secret Lairs. Plus, Wizards seems content just jacking up the prices in general, if the Everyone's Invited drop was any indicationโฆ.

I really hope they wont make these more expensive. I do love Vivi and would love to have him toss a lightning bolt for me, and a cyclonic rift will always find a use. But I am so tired of wotc and their recent price hikes. On top of how difficult it already is to get a hold of these secret lairs, if they keep going like this and Im gonna have to jump ship with a lot of others in my playgroup recently and just start printing proxies.
