Magicโ€™s Fallout Secret Lair: Rad Superdrop went live on January 26, 2026. But as orders have started landing, a growing number of MTG players are saying that their drops have severe quality-control problems: scratches, print issues, bent cards, bad centering, crimps, wrong contentsโ€ฆ and even sealed envelopes with nothing inside.

There are so many reports that the r/secretlair_collectors subreddit has a dedicated thread specifically to damaged Fallout Secret Lair orders.

โ€œLet's all come together in one post,โ€ says that thread, โ€œto assess how many people have had their Fallout Lair come with missprints, weird colouring, lines, scratches, machine lines, cutout lines, even if the Lair envelope came EMPTY, or with the bonus card wrong.โ€

Any claim on Reddit (or online, for that matterโ€ฆ) needs to be taken with appropriate doses of salt. But it's impossible not to notice that the Fallout Secret Lair has sparked a lot more controversy than usual. And according to Reddit posters, sometimes it's not just one but every card in their drop.

โ€œFallout SLD just arrived for me in Singapore,โ€ says u/KenXtreme, โ€œand after opening the first 7 lairs, all 7 sets had something with scratches/defects. I took more time looking at the defects than actually enjoying the opening process :(. Dreading opening the rest.โ€

What's more, a lot of the posts come from first-time Secret Lair buyers, who are not entirely sure if this is unusual or not. โ€œIs this normal?โ€ wonders u/Dlowers923 as they share screenshots of the cards they got:

โ€œI can't tell if the rest of the cards are normal or not,โ€ continues u/Dlowers923. โ€œAre basically all the cards in the set supposed to have a horizontal line towards the bottom of the card where it looks bent or pressed into?โ€

(In case you were wondering ,too: No, definitely not okay!)

And sometimes it's even worse: Some players report getting no cards at all!

Empty Fallout Drops

โ€œGot my โ€œWelcome to New Vegasโ€ order in the mail yesterday,โ€ reports u/MrWalletInspector. โ€œOpened the sealed envelope andโ€ฆ..empty. Zero contents. Is this happening to anyone else?โ€

โ€œI ordered the fallout secret lair bundle that included the silver shroud foil promo,โ€ says u/MjCoolio in a different thread. โ€œI received a sealed envelope but it was empty. How do I go about this? Iโ€™ve purchased other secret lair products in the past and never had this experience.โ€

Things have got to the point where players are advising others to film yourself opening the envelope, as clear proof that there was nothing inside.

Deep Purple

And there's another misprint, apparently quite widespread, where the backs of the cards have a distinct purple tint to them.

โ€œIโ€™m new to the whole secret lair thing so idk if this is normal or not,โ€ posts u/Hhaunters, another Secret Lair first-timer confused about what they should expect. โ€œWould this fail the green dot test?โ€

Several other posters confirm their drops' backs were purple, and there are even some players who would not be unhappy to get those.

โ€œIf you got them directly from the secret lair site it's a dope printing error,โ€ says u/himitsuuuโ€ฆ

โ€ฆ but other MTG players strongly disagree. โ€œAs far as I'm concerned the purple back should be an automatic replacement since it makes the cards unplayable (marked),โ€ says u/Spirit_Old. โ€œHow is this OK?โ€

And the quality of the cards themselves, not just the purple back, seems subpar.

โ€œI received mine and also have the purple on the back,โ€ reports u/Ravagingek. โ€œThe quality of the cards is also very thin. I asked multiple people at my LGS and if I wouldnโ€™t have explained the quality issue they wouldโ€™ve guessed they were bad proxies. I also didnโ€™t notice the back is a little darker until more people started mentioning it. They look fake and even with sleeves they bend really bad because of how thin the cards are.โ€

The good news is that Wizards does have a replacement policy, although it tends to take weeks to months.

If you open a product and find โ€œone or several cardsโ€ damaged or defective, you can get them replaced; you just need to contact Customer Support and ask for product replacement at this link.
