How to Unlock the Hilarious Cabbage Companion Easter Egg on MTG Arena

Even if you're not an Avatar: The Last Airbender fan, you probably know about the struggles of the heroic cabbage vendor and his quest to defeat the villainous airbender and his gang. And if you didn't know about it already, MTG went out of its way to make sure you know, which multiple cards and an entire Secret Lair dedicated to The Cabbage Merchant.

But they weren't done there. MTG Arena‘s holding one more little cabbagey secret, and it's a total freebie if you know where to look.

Cabbage for Everyone

Avatar: The Last Airbender dropped on MTG Arena this Tuesday, and the devs hid a funny little secret in the new battlefield. As @MTGNerdGirl and some others pointed out shortly after release, this is indeed something everyone can pick up by just logging in and playing a match. You know, assuming you ever wanted a head of cabbage as you Arena pet.

Here's how you can unlock it:

Play a Match

Play any matchmaking game that takes place on the new Avatar-themed battlefield. The easiest way to do this is to just hop into an Avatar-related queue like Jump-In or a Traditional/Premier Draft event.

Find the Cabbage Merchant's Cart

To be fair, we don't know that this cart actually belongs to the Cabbage Merchant himself, but it's very breakable either way. Find the cabbage cart hiding to the left of your opponent's player icon, right below their starting hand.

DESTROY the Cabbage Cart

Rapidly clicking the cabbage cart about 10-20 times will knock it over, cabbages and all. After that, finish out the match that you're in.

Check Your Inbox

After the match ends and you're back on the play blade, you should have a new message waiting for you. Wonder who it's from?

Bring Your New Pet Home

Check your new message, claim the prize, and you'll become the proud owner of a head of cabbage, a reward for your rampant and wanton destruction of personal property. Display it proudly?

How Do You Equip the Cabbage Pet?

Maybe you're new to Arena and this is your first unlockable. Don't worry (and welcome)! It's pretty easy to change your cosmetics around. Just click Profile from the tabs in the upper left of the homepage, then find the companions button in the lower right corner of the next page.

Here you'll see all those wonderful pets/companions you forgot about. Don't worry, they're well-fed! There's cabbage here, after all. Just click the bulbous head of leafy greens, then “Set Default”, and you're ready to show the world your callous disregard for the establishment. While you're at it, give Graham Greene's The Destroyers a quick read, it'll certainly fit your… temperament.

Seriously though, enjoy your cabbage, and kudos to Arena for sticking such a fun Easter Egg in the game.
