Orthion, Hero of Lavabrink illus. Aaron Miller
We previously covered Deadpool, Trading Cardโs financial mischief with The Master, Multiplied, which has gone from bulk to nearly $20 after Deadpool was spoiled. Master isn't the only card that meshes with Deadpool, Trading Card though, as speculators are moving in on several other cards as well.
Orthion, Hero of Lavabrink

Orthion, Hero of Lavabrink is the first card that Deadpool, Trading Card seems to be bumping. It's an obscure one from March of the Machine that can only be opened in Set or Collector Boosters, as it wasn't in the main set proper. Orthion's rise is likely due to it being one of the stronger shimmer effects available, which are key to the Deadpool + The Master, Multiplied combo we covered. If you'd like a recap:
- Token copies of Deadpool, Trading Card will enter as the original card, not whatever you've copied with him.
- Mirror Gallery effects like The Master, Multiplied will let you keep multiple Deadpools that are your opponent's best creatures, while also burdening your opponents with worse than useless creatures.
- The Master, Multiplied goes one step further by letting temporary tokens stick around, so the full combo of Deadpool, Trading Card + The Master, Multiplied + Heat Shimmer cards could torment an entire table in a manner that feels very Deadpool!โ
Determined Iteration

Determined Iteration is an interesting tokens card from New Capenna Commander, and one of only two mono-red cards with populate. It offers a cheap way to get more copies of Deadpool, Trading Card each turn, and looks easier to pull off than Orthion, Hero of Lavabrink. It wasn't quite bulk before Deadpool (as it fits some other decks like Mishra, Eminent One), but you can see how obvious the spike timing is above!
Terror of the Peaks

The last card we are covering is Terror of the Peaks, which is Standard legal due a recent printing in Outlaws of Thunder Junction. Standard certainly isn't driving its price action though, which seems to come from a combination of Tarkir: Dragonstorm and Deadpool, Trading Card. This is because Terror is not only powerful with the Deadpool shimmer plan, but also a good dragon to boot. Thus there are a lot of potential EDH players right now who seem to want this card, which has put its price point a fair bit higher than it used to be.
In Conclusion
Deadpool and Tarkir: Dragonstorm are driving several cards up right now. Will the reign of dragons last long, or will Universes Beyond: Final Fantasy make last week's treasure next week's forgotten bulk? Deadpool has sprung to the most popular Commander according to EDHRec, so it's safe to say players might want to keep their eyes out for cards that could synergize well.
